OK, Chris, please educate me with mechanics here, what the &T^%%%^&& is this picture of?????

The golden part is the side shaft "AXLE" cover comming from the Gearbox the silver round thing is the Disc for disc from a Golf brakes then the other silver looking thing with the black braket on is the Brake caliper to stop the bug

SO instead of having drum brakes on the Beetle we are fitting Disc brakes front and back on Bernards Beetle for stopping power

Thanks Matt, unfortunately I cannot take any credit, as except for the wheels, it's all Bugger's effort. Oh no, I did contribute something, the finances! I am going to sort out the gauges, electrics and sound when I get home and the engine is the last big item on the list.
I am very happy so far, as we did things the way I wish I could have done my first beetle. Everything is either new or refurbished.
The sooner we can finish this one the quicker I can drive it!
And the quicker I can start with the Bay!

One question for the audio boffins. What would you suggest for an open top?
I was thinking along these lines. No head unit, just connectors for an Ipod or mp3 player to the amp(s). A set of splits in kick panels in front. Nothing in the doors or rear side panels. In the box at the back hidden from sight 1x 10" or 2x 8" subs and either a set of splits or a set of 4x10s or 6x9s. A 4 ch amp for the speakers and one dual ch for the sub(s). I haven't played with audio stuff since I sold my beetles in 1996, so I'm a bit behind.
Any suggestions on the above setup and possible brands? I don't need bass that you can hear 3 blocks away.
I am partial to Kenwood or after a very good experience in my DC, also LG.

That setup sounds good.I would go for one 10inch sub in a proper built box.Lightning amps are very good.

Build a nice amp setup that can fit under the bonnet so that it's out the way and protected.

If you don't want to cut into door panels,you can fit 6x9's under the rear seat.In the panels next to the holes where the heater pipes go.

But kenwoods good hey. And yeah 1 10" is perfect for sound quality. Enough low range frequency. A monoblock amp is perfect, always higer power amp than sub. Splits up front are perfect.
