A bit late, but this weekend past, fitted new cylinders in the drums at the back of the bus. New brake flexi hose on the one side, she stops on a dime now.

So sunday took her cruising, and ill tell you that 2000l is worth it in the end, got on the highway and floored her, the carbs bellowing at the back, took her up to 120 very quickly and she is very stable at speed. What a great feeling to reap the rewards of all your hard work...

Will be taking her out to Cintsa for the Breakfast run next of next weekend.

Thanks to everybody that advised and helped me find those last parts needed to get her in shape.

Good on you SIR, well done.
The best I have done with the fastback is fit a type 4 2000cc motor.
Only I started with Fuel Injection, went to Kombi carbs, to twin Webers.
Man what a pleasure. When you step on the gas, she screams, YES.... Lets Go...!!!!!
With a crisp, deep voice....... :D
Sorry, have to go have a cold shower just right now.........

Removed a lot of crap add-ons (extra brake light, reflectors, badges, etc) Replaced a leaking axle boot and busy replacing the buggy's front shocks, quite enjoying the spannering! Might start becoming an obsession....

Thanx to Herman's advice in another thread, l got me a reconditioned 646 battery (@ R250) as old one died this week.
Cleaned battery area with lots of bicarb, wirebrushed and put nice layer of NS1. Will put 2nd coat today.

What is the best product/method for protecting the battery tray area?

Hloni, what do you wanna protect the battery tray from??????

If its battery spillage, cut an old 5L oil can straight down the middle (vertically). Before putting your battery in the tray, place the battery in the handleless side of your cut up oil can.

Thanx HR, that is a quick solution.

I suppose I ask myself WHY DO BATTERY TRAYS WAISTE AWAY SO BADLY on the beetle - and I had some acid spillage somehow.

I cross fingers that the PLASTIC oil can will not be chowed by the acid :-)

What did you do on your car today?
The laundry - Kadron style!

An important aspect of washable air filters is that you actually have to wash them every now and then

I weighed them once, both, before and after washing... 75g lighter after washing and oiling... I was surprised.

Sorted out some exhaust leak and found another while taking it all apart, what a mission to take it apart with all the extra goodies. Have to disconnect wiring, oil pipes, take off air-filter and some cooling tin. There is also a specific sequence to follow or it won't be able to come out because of clearance. All the leaks are at joints and gaskets, I have been planning on getting/making better gaskets as they keep on 'blowing' with the Turbo.
