Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hey guys!
My name is Craig and im a vw airhead from Namibia! I come from a vdub family and i guess i just love classic vw's! I came across this forum during my vast search of anything aircooled on the net. So far looks like a real nice forum and i really look forward to checking out how things are done in SA!
I currenly, or should i say my brothers and i currently own 2 vw type 2 buses. A 1969 and a 1979 model. The '69 we've had for around 4 years, got it back when i was in matric and the '79 i resently bought cos it was just such a good deal and one bus is just never enough! We spend almost all our free time and money fixing these busses up, its what we do! The 69 is basically complete, we just use it for holiday trips, just came back from a trip up north by the way... went like a dream! The 79 is still under construction, but should be running within a few months or so. We have owned a beetle, 2 jettas, a type 25 bus and a 2door golf. My brother is currently driving an imported polo GTI aswell. Will try post some pics so everyone can get an idea of whats going on with the classic vdub scene in Namibia!
Thanx!

Welcome Craig. You say youve just been up north on holiday. Where is up north from Namibia? I did a trip up north in January in my buggy but that was to Upington and Springbok.

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
We didnt go out of Namibia if thats what you mean, but we did do quite a bit of travelling. We drove from Windhoek to the coast, then up along the skeleton coast (gravel road) towards Capecross, finally stopping over at mile 108 for the night. The next day we headed away from the coast towards Khorixas and then turned north up towards a place called Palmwag (more gravel roads). The day after that we drove all over the twyfelfontein area and camped a night at Khorixas. Finally we drove back down to waterberg, camped there 2 nights and returned home. Round about 1650km trip, with no hickups in a bus that we originally bought for N750.00!! Pretty amazing, after about 7 years of standing under a tree we managed to bring her back to life, makes you wonder how many more vdubs are just laying around waiting to be fixed up!
P.S. i posted some pics in the projecst area!

Thats what I was asking. By going north I would of thought you had gone into Angola. But just like us, there is so much of your own country to see. We had a 7 day round trip from Cape Town to Upington in 5 buggies over New Year which was amazing.

Yeah i can imagine, thats probably the benefit of living in SA, much more classic vdub fans, clubs etc. Here in Nam its very seldom that you see classics vdubs running around. Let alone sourcing parts, its virtually impossible nowadays.

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi guys, thanks for this site... I'm hoping to pick MANY brains out there for help. Bought a bug 5 years ago, pulled it to pieces in about a month, and now have the less fun task of putting it back together again! (2 kids arriving got a bit in the way of the spare time!). The chassis is sound, but needs a new pan (I cut the old one out due to rust). Any suggestions there would be great... I've heard fibreglass is the way to go.. then next idea was galvanised (to be rubberised after?). I would accept any and all suggestions.
My main concern is the engine. It still lies in a million pieces, and will obviously need the usual replacement parts. I am led to believe (from the previous owner) the it came from a Carmengia, so I would like to keep it if at all possible. I've head there is a place in PE which does engines called Remtech? Can anyone help?
Many thanks, and look fwd to chatting further.
