[quote="calooker"]You should have ported the heads when the guides were out , makes life so much easier
I know I should of but I had the heads redone last year with new guides, valves and springs.
It was a real mission especially doing the intake ports with that long guide poking out in the way and I had to be ultra careful when doing the exhaust ports not to damage the guides
Anyone know where I can get a good 3 angle valve job done in CT by someone who knows what they are doing

I found a motor engineering shop 3 blocks away from my work that will 3 angle cut the seats on their Serdi machine, regrind the valves and vacuum test the heads to make sure the valves are sealing.
The heads should be ready on Wednesday so if I get the time I can build the engine up to a longblock next weekend

Heads are back from the engineering shop, will assemble them the weekend, is it necessary to run shims under the springs to correct the valve spring installed height or should I just run them as they are, I am using single hd valve springs which are a lot stiffer than std valve springs.
The valve spring installed height is about 40.2mm at the moment stock spec says 1.5" or 38.1mm

Only got enough time this weekend to lap the valves in and assemble the heads, man those single hd springs really took a lot of muscle using my el cheapo spring compressor but I got them in, those CB Performance ChroMo valve spring retainers I got really look trick on top of the valve springs

Managed to clean the sleeves and pistons and also checked the ring end gaps as well as fitting the rings on the pistons then I ran out of time so assembly while have to wait another week

Engine has finally been built up to a longblock

should of taken a pic before i sealed and wrapped it up but too late now.
Engine tin is going for powder coating on monday, once it comes back I can start bolting on all the ancillaries like the carbs, alti etc.
Gonna take the engine to Dave Rowley to break it in on his test stand when its fully built up and will also run a set of SS trumpet exhausts temporarily till I can afford a nice 4 in 1 SS buggy exhaust.
Hoping to have the engine ready by the time I go on leave in december.

I love it, so neat and clean. Anyone want to give an educated guess at what this engine would cost if it were for sale vs building it this way?

Its going to look even better once the powder coated tin is on with a few chrome bits sprinkled on it
So far I have invested R13500 in this engine but it was built from scratch and I did a few extra things to it a stock rebuild wouldn't get(balancing, strengthen valvetrain,W100 cam,8 dowel and lighten flywheel etc)
Also curious how much an engine would sell like this as the basic long block itself cost about R9500 just in parts

Edmond that pic size is perfect. Most of ours are that size. Something like 680 x 840.
