We made it home although I was getting a little worried towards the end of the trip. The gear box became quite noisy, with a whine almost like a racing gearbox with straight cut gears.
The motor is also leaking a fair amount of oil so motor and gearbox will have to come out. Nice considering the PO spent a pile of cash on rebuilding it (with WR Auto in White River). Hope he doesn't use the same "mechanic" again!
Anyone have a gearbox for sale?

most 2lt boxes are suspect, best you bite the bullet once, go straight to Bugger and get done with it.

The school fees paid by me, landed me with the most expensive box

you know it all works, so with a good service and a few parts, you should come out smiling.

Any idea exactly where the engine is leaking oil?

You could check level of the gearbox oil. With filler plug (on side of gearbox), removed, oil should be level with bottom of hole. Hopefully, it was'nt the gearbox loosing it's oil.

Dawie I'm not exactly sure but looks like somewhere between gearbox and motor.

Dropped the bus of with Vdubtech yesterday. Pierre will be checking a bunch of stuff including the gearbox. He will also be removing the motor as there is a vibration at certain revs that needs checking as well as to fix the oil leaks.

the oil leaks and gearbox has been sorted. The engine compartment has been resprayed, done some work on the suspension which the purists will hate and fitted carpet under the front seats as well as kick panels. Getting close to completing the bus.......if it is ever done! Just want to sort out the seats and headlining now and finish fitting the sound system. Cant wait to get her back!
I also picked up a bargain on 3 roof racks which im excited about.
Hopefully we will be at Piston Ring Club on Sunday to display her for the first time.
