Good day my name is Danie Jacobs. I just board my first VW Beetle and I am so in love with this little care. I was searching the web and came across your forum. I am 41 years old and been doing cares as a hobby, but stopped two years ago. I decided to start this year. I have a 1972 1600cc and a 71 or 72 1500cc Beetle. Among the cares that I have is a Daewoo, Lumina APV, Jeep, Boat, Trailer. Caravan, 2 Beetles and a Yamaha motorcycle as you can see I love motoring.

Thanks

Hi everybody,

I am Wessel, living in Centurion Gauteng, working in the project management environment of an IT organisation.

I've had Air-cooled VW as part of my life as long as I can remember. As a young boy my parents both drove 60's Beetles 1300 and a 1600. Later on my dad owned a '76 1700 Kombi which he drove for years to come.

My first Beetle was a '71 1300 Baja bug (I bought it already converted) which I had resprayed and had the interior done nicely. I showed it a couple of times at Cars in the Park etc. A very nice specimen. My brother drove also a late 70's Variant at that time. Also a very nice vehicle.

As a youngster, I got the urge to try out married life and the Beetle had to make space for the woman in my life :?
- I sold it but for the years to come I drooled every time I saw a nice Beetle at a show. I longed to own one again.

In 1996 I bought a secondhand KCC kit with rolling chassis and all the necessary spares - just needed assembly (quick job I thought - famous last words).
The shell was already sprayed which made work a bit difficult to not damage the paint. It had a shortened Beetle chassis, 2 L Aircooled Variant Motor, discs in front, independent suspension at the rear with coil overs added to the shocks to compensate for the heavier motor.

Three years later my pride and joy passed road worthy and I could enjoy "open top bugs in the teeth driving" as much as I liked.
I do not drive the car as much as I would like to, but take her out on the open road every now and then.

After my brother died in a motor vehicle accident, I inherited a '69 1500 LHD Beetle (Euro Spec - 1303 I think). He just started the restoration process and had basically just taken it apart, sanded it down and readied it for a paint job. The vehicle was still in a very good running condition when he bought it, but stood parked under a tree just covered by a tarpaulin, for years. The only major damage is the right hand rear part of the floor pan is badly rusted and need to be replaced. I have slowly started to work on the Beetle about three months ago, basically just cleaning up and getting things ready for the major restoration process. I will keep you posted as the process carries on.

Well that's my story.

Cheers
Wessel
