I just got confirmation from PO that it is indeed Kobus' car. So the mystery is solved.MINCE wrote:After close inspection, that oval in the background is INDEED my donor car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess Kobus' oval is not being ressurected anymore.
He also tells me that Kobus failed to give him all the parts after he paid for them. So, now I don't feel so bad for making it a donor car.

That is a KAK story, Kobus got the car from radio Eric almost complete and sold it to Eugene (66looker) and Eugene striped it not kobus
There were no loose parts to go with the sale!!!!

Re: Betty the Oval - MINCE
well the guy i got it from got screwed by being told there were parts with it that he ended up not getting.
if it isn't one person, it is another. Doesn't matter though.
sorry for the confusion.

I got the car from Eugene dos Santos, dont know of any Kobus and apparently that car was ONLY missing an engine, everything else was "available" and I bought it. When it got here, parts was missing, I asked and was promised that it would be sent to me as it was stored at some connections warehouse...months went on, no reply to any of my calls, emails, PM`s...fokol and I started sourcing the outstanding bits myself and then plans changed and it became a donor

Re: Betty the Oval - MINCE
no papers unfortunately
Like with Betty, I am still to find the history of that one. Like how bad the accident was, where the parts went to (although, I do suspect it went to that fake '51 split beetle) and why the VIN plate was taken off.

Hope the vin plate is not running on a other beetle somewhere.MINCE wrote:no papers unfortunately

Looked at a beetle once, found the vin plate was different to the centre tunnel number, and was from a different model altogether. Must have been some magic face cream, as the beetle lost 23 years.

Re: Betty the Oval - MINCE
The way i understand it, the only number that matters to the police is the one stamped into the chassis. They told me a plate riveted somewhere means nothing if you can show them the one that was originally stamped under the rear seat. They said that is why it is called the "chassis number" and not body number.
Same with type 4 engines with same number on both the block and fan housing. They only care about the one on the block.
You must have the invoice from the seller, with the chassis number appearing on there. You need that to start the process to register. If it turns out there is another beetle running with your plate, that other guy should be in trouble.

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
