Chris, the concern here is primarily for the people on this forum who are doing this, and also the reputation of this forum.
As someone has already suggested, offering a Beetle pan for sale with papers appears in a very different light to offering VIN plates and papers. When we point out the fact that the latter is illegal, it is not by way of wanting to make anybody look bad, it's because I, and I am sure everyone here, wouldn't want to see any forum members facing criminal sanction for wanting to help out.
I think the message is clear: it might be prudent to be a bit more discreet.

Just had a thought, perhaps we need more advise or info on what is considered legal or illegal.
I can see that buying papers and a VIN plate for a car is illegal, but I am sure there are grey areas.
My worst nightmare would be spending thousands of hours, rands and litres of passion restoring a car, and then finding out when I finally register it that something was done illegally and the car gets conviscated or worse still I get a suspended jail sentence!
How far can you go with a rebuild, what types of clearance (if there are different ones) do you get, when is a car old enough so one is no longer required to pay a license fee? Is this even still valid, and all sorts of questions I am sure half the forum has but has never thought of asking, what do you guys think ?

I could have voiced my concerns via PM. But I thought it was important to discuss this openly and I wanted to see how others felt about it. I have been very careful not to identify anyone in this thread.
Anyway, nuff said.

Guys,
Both sides here have equally valid points.
The conclusion and compromise is as follows:
If you are going to make papers available, make sure you have a chassis to sell with it, and state it as such.
Saying anything more about this just keeps the topic alive for longer, making the whole damn thing even more visible.
So. Before adding yet another post to this thread. Please think about what you are saying and make sure no one has said it already!!
