How much mechanical differance is there between a new Citi to a new Polo? And upholstory. And electrical system.

So what do you get for a extra 40K when you buy a Polo.

I think it is excellent that a manufacture can keep a car alive for so long. It also give the Citi one of the best Second Hand values. A Citi is also one of the cheapest and easiest to keep running. It has become the old escort of the 70s.

For the past 20 years the Citi was going to be the end of VW.
Every year some one has inside information that the Citi is comming to a end.

But it Keeps selling. Would they not drop it if there was no market?

There is a lot of differences.First of all,the Golf is hand built and the Polo machine built.Chassis is miles appart.Seats and upholstery has a clear quality difference, especially sound deadning.Polo has airbags, electric windows, aircon,ABS,EBD and other electrical gadgets.None of the technology on the Polo is 30 years old.

In my opinion there is no reason for the Citi to be that expensive. It has paid for itself 20 years ago and should have been sold as a cheaper entry level car.

The only Citis that will have airbags will be the end-of-model-limited-edition-Golfs.

If you get you RSA license and send the accompanying letter to VWSA to order your Clubmans Mk1 they will supply you with a complete body with rollcage, ex windows running gear and interior all for R11000!!!! All you then need is 1 racing seat, engine, gearbox, suspension wheels and tires...

Now tell me that its worth 100k!!!!!

Citi's are also the cheapest cars to fix after a prang!!!

That's news to me

VWSA themselves said it will only be on the last model. They obviously changed their minds.

Introducing the new Citi GTS
GTS Special edition
The latest special edition departs from previous edition themes and pays tribute
to the legendary Golf GTS. The GTS is planned as a replacement for the 1.4 Rox
model. The GTS recalls the hallmark of the original Golf GTS in offering a valuefor-
money performance hatchback, characterised by the red radiator grill
surround, double headlights ad classic GTS side stripes and lettering.
The GTS will incorporate specification changes to highly visual items such as
painted wheels and side stripes. This model incorporates retro styling, lowered
sports suspension and 15” alloy rims coated in gunmetal grey. The GTS volume
will be limited to 300 units.
Specification:
GTS specification is based on the CitiRox 1.4 and includes:
· 1.4l 63kW engine
· The radiator grille has a red surround
· 15” Alloy wheels in light gunmetal
· Classic GTS side-striping
· GTS side decals with logo on rear doors
· GTS badge on Tailgate
· Front loose-lay mats with GTS logo and silver stitching
· Colour coded bumpers and mirrors
· Black and silver interior trim
· Sports suspension
· Sports seats
Exterior Colours:
The GTS is available in the following colours:
Candy White Tornado Red
Summer Blue Sunset Red
Tossa Blue Reflex Silver
Pricing:
Indicative pricing for the GTS is R101, 100 ( )
Model code:
1746D4
If it's too low, you're too old

I'm going to buy some of these GTS decals and stash them away. In 20 years time, they will be worth quite a bit as NOS GTS decals :P

There have already been Mk1 Golfs for sale on this forum for decent prices and they've been snapped up. The Mk1 Golf is a cult car and the Citi is keeping many Mk1 Golf GTis alive by being body donors in the UK (exporter, hoohaa). The Citi Golf remains a popular car, you see many on the roads. I for one, like them. But I don't see why we have to bring the Shackledraggers in on this. Billabong, f----that! :jerkoff:
