After a week of cleaning, we decided to check the electrics. After replacing the battery, reconnecting the loose wires on the engine and freeing the seized ignition lock, we turned the key, the ignition lights came on and the idle valves on the carbs clicked.

Turned the key a bit further and the starter worked. We decided" what the hell:" and poured some fuel down the carbs. We turned the key, the starter worked and lo and behold the engine sputtered into life. We ran a temporary line to the fuel pump, primed the carbs again, and the engine started. After a few seconds the idling stabilised and there sat the engine, running for the first time since 1985 - no smoke, no knocks, no leaks.

With the gearbox not happy, we couldn't drive to Ferdie's. So as suggested earlier in the forum, we put the car on the stretcher and took it along to go and play with some friends at the swop meet.
