The german busses had or has mostly a 4.125 R&P with a1.26 3de and a .88 4th gear

The Fleetlines due to the fact that they were most 1600 and built in 75 also had the 4.125 R&P
But with a 1.22 3de and .82 4th, Both taller ratios and that is what gave them the bit better croozing speeds

Do me a favor and send me the Letter codes that is at the bottom of the transmission and check where the Bowden tube fastens on to the transmission if it is a casting on to the side cover or the steel bolt on tube holder

Thanks for the info 'Bugger' that is very helpful, when I get the box opened up I'll get the ratios checked, I dont think the bax is too bad,the synchro had gone on 1st so lots of 2nd gear pull aways from stop when loaded were too much.

Guys, what's with the pipe (on Photo 2) on the passenger side between the cab and the loadbin - is this the Air Intake?

The photo from the inside of the wooded load bin looks like the inside of an "OSSEWA"!!! Very very nice application of the wide bin - you dont need a "rooftop tent"!!!

It is a snorkel for passing through Centurion roads after some mild rainfall...

What exactly is a Fleetline? Is that a private company or is that VW? What year did VW / Fleetline stop building the old split windows?

Afaik, VW stopped making the split window busses in 67.
Then in 1975 VWSA, got some splitbus parts, including the desireable nose, and produced the fleetline. It was a bit of a mixed bag of parts from various year busses. Split seats and nose, early split seats at the front, some bay parts etc.

They were to my knowledge the last split look busses ever made, and at the time were regarded as the budget model, as the more expensive bay window bus was the bus of the time. There was a fleetline bus, panelvan and SC. Don't know about a DC ??
A product unique to South-Africa. Certain members on the forum don't care much for them, , but others, like myself, think they are pretty cool. They might not be as old as the original splits, but because they are unique to our country, it makes them special in my eyes.

Fig, Samba, Bossie ? and others will surely be able to give you more (accurate) info, but that is the gist of it.

Parts came from Brazilia and assembled here(RSA) Nose badge was pressed in the nose as oposed to the loose nose badge on the "german splities" pre 67 ones.

Thats quite correct. I have one of the few fleetline SC apparently the only made +/- 784 of the fleetlines between 1974-1975

Does any one have a fleetline here that they have repaired or busy repairing the body panels? what did you guys do?

how about rubberrising the flatbed? and cut out the rusted panels and replace it with 1.6mm flat cold roled steel plates?
