Just thought ill give a short update

Done 1000km running in and the morning I met IMPI to collect his 356 the wast gate got stuck and the boost shot past .5bar
with the result a damaged piston
the motor started to breath and sputed oil out of the breather housing on the way home
The oil was heated up by the Turbo and caught fire
The fire was so intense melted plugwires 1&3 and This part I call Luck with the bad luck as the Radiator reservoir bottle melted and burst and extuingishing the flames
The fire was right there by the fuel lines even the brake fluid reservoir has nearly melted which would have fueled the fire

I tow`d the Black home and strategised

As I want this bug as reliable as possible I decided to get a R32 4Motion 6 Speed transmission and fit that to the bug when taking out the motor
So this far
Got my 6speed transmission
6 speed cable shifts
New special starter
Waiting for a few other parts for the conversion

In the prosses to order a set of Wossner Pistons to take plenty boost
Wast gate will also be replaced with a Delta gate or a Turbo smart one

Sorry about your bad luck Bugger. Was the damage from the fire a lot to repair or just a few bottles, leads and hoses?

Glad it wasn't terminal!

Hi Dutch the damage are minimal luckily
burnt plug wires
melted brake reservoir bottle
melted fuel lines  if they were burnedthrough then sure as hell the bug would have been gone
TPS and all plastic on throttle body and wiring
and the paint on the bonnet has bubbled on the out side

I was very very lucky that the waterbottle melted and extuingished the flames
So this must be called one of those cases what they say
I had better good luck than bad luck

Quick update
Got the Wossner Pistons but the size that was sent is 1mm to small so we hat to re order as it is a shlep to send back
Here I can give Volkspares 200% Kudus Garin has orderd the right size 2 sets one for me and one for a Corrado VR Turbo
and Garin is keeping the 81.5 mm ones in stock and orderd 2 new sets for us :hangloose:

The other Brain waive I also got was that the Black will Become a Police lookalike Bug
I will be making the sides of the bug 2 tone white and the bonnet roof and Tailgate white and on the doors I will have a Stickker
printed looking like a Police badge and might get one of those LED small roof lights as the scorpions used to use and fit that on the roof
Then it will look like a "Police" Bug  with the Black and white inserts

So the wait is giving me ants in the pants as I can not wait to get this project to a roll as well

LOL @ Farhaad

No the fire theme has been in the back of the mind basically since I got the split bus
as panel splits are not so much available as non panels. :D
