I like KK's debate on stock or not! Let's do one topic at a time otherwise we should just post in question only thread or kiss my arse thread....

So on Stock or Not....I think you have to leave it to the individual who owns the car! They paid for it and if you want to keep all cars as they came out the factory then buy all the rare ones and do that. The world would be very boring if that was the case. My view is whatever you do, use it.....allow others to also enjoy your vehicles as people who put away in a lockedprivate garage until they die.....I just don't get!!!!

Stock is easier. You read a Manual and it should provide most of the answers. It would also have a beter return on investment.

Modified = Everybody wants to give you advice and you always battling to get it to drive acceptable.
Everybody would like to have one like it but there are few buyers and they will offer you a part of what you have spent.

Unless you are prepared to invest lots (MEGA) in school fees (Monies and Years) finding what is BS and what works, dont Modify

Who Does not Agree with this Statment.

Its not that I dont believe in mods. If you look at the Kubel you will see a different oil filler (small). The Scoob bug is Mod to the extreme.

What My problem is: Manufactures want to sell. Retailers want to sell. What works in Drag cars could be dangerous on the street, but the kid recons if its good for a dragster it must be good for my road car. You get the bolt on power but they dont tell you your car becomes a bitch to drive. Some guy write a book and some poor kid reads it. He believes its true. but the author just wants to sell books.

I'm making up a bumper sticker that says, Shockless=SHIT,just for fun :) :)
I have so many topics to debate, but won't rock the boat because a lot of experts on the forum would get a bit too upset...

I'm with Dutch on what to modify or leave stock. As with leaving stuff to rust because you're "gonna fix that up someday". Harder to swallow when it is something rare, but it really is the owner's choice. Of course everything you do in life has repurcussions and maybe some people like being called assholes - still their choice though.

As for shockless, I say fcuk it - if running without shocks will clean up the look of your front suspension, why not leave the front brakes off too. They're not really neccesary are they?

Be it always me that throws a spanner in the works... stock or not...

It is of course the owners choice! It's his, he can do with it what he likes, he can mod it, rat it, let it rust, restore it, sell it, export it, whatever the hell he likes. However...

There is some social responsibility, I think. Some need to conform, dare I say it. Modifying: Cal-look, German look, rat look.
There is a responsibility to conform by maintaining a SAFE ride, i.e. you're not going to kill me when I stop in front of you by creaming me up the ar$e.

To a point, there is a need for conforming to the conscience of the enthusiasts eg ACVWSA folks have an aversion to exporters, don't export then, but buyers, beware, the prices are only gonna go one way. And there is a need to debate stock or not.

I want to point out that the decision is, or should be, influenced by the car itself. Point in case is the discussion on Cream Cracker. Another is my T14. I was offered a stunning T14, a Low Light, original, 6V, a couple of horse power, a stunning piece of history. But what I desire is a T14 with 200 horses and no bumpers and sloping headlights. Now I could have bought that Low Light and done what I wanted to, but that would, in my opinion be a crime against humanity, so I bought another T14, also a Low Light, as it turns out, but one that has been in a front-end smash and has a later front welded on. Now THAT suits. I can cut as I like!

But, one could also argue, it's not about conforming at all, or pleasing others. It's about the conscience of the true enthusiast. The measure of a true enthusiast.

That said, someone that buys a beautiful, well preserved, unrestored, daily driver of over 40 years old, and rips it to bits to chuck in go faster bits, narrow beams and slams the nose into the dirt not only has no conscience but doesn't understand the value of what he owns and the fact that the car is devalued by his actions, and not only in pretty substantial monetary terms. Apart from the fact that he could have started off with a cheaper project car. But that's just my opinion.

It's mine, I can do whatever the hell I want with it

If I have a 100% original Oval and I want to GermanLook it, I can do it. Why? It's my car!! None of the big-mouth purists who whine and say keep it original contributed a single cent towards the car, so what gives them the right to make noise and dictate to me what I can and can't do to MY OWN car that I paid for with MY bucks???!! Of course, if they are willing to pay for it and give me parts, then and only then can "they" tell me what to do.
