Hans Trippel, the designer of the Schwimwagen, worked for the German army during WWll.He needed money to realise the dream of an amphibious car,so,he aproached one of the owners of BMW which became the biggest investor and Trippel was able to build the Schwimwagen. It is said that the Amphicar's lines was responsible for the success of the BMW 2002 that saved BMW from bankruptcy.

Incedently,he was also responsible for the Gullwing Mercedes' door design, and during the 1940's,he took over the Bugati factory after Germany invaded France.

Don't worry B.A.B. I understood you, the later car, owed it's existence to the earlier car, and not as Chris has them!

Interesting thing is that the factory in which those schimmwagen's were made was the Bugatti factory! See, already then VW was parts sharing with Bugatti :-)

Another connection is that both these cars were neither good cars, nor good boats, and they both now sell for ridiculous amounts!

Last fact, the last commercial design mr. Tippel released was in 1989 at age 82!

AND you own a computer on which you can, with a click or two, research anything including the spelling of names and places. I hope many of the younger guys on the forum read this, IMO it is very UNcool to show your ignorance/laziness/uncaring attitude in public, and this is public. Come now guys!

Yes,the later car does owe it's existance to the earlier on,but that was not the question. The question was why BMW was the reason for the Schwimwagen's existance.

All you guys ,except ron must go back to school.

1972 can't spell.
BAB writes backwards to front
Karmakoma can't read

...and Ron should have been a teacher instead of an engineer.

What I do see is that even in those days, that there was connections between BMW,VW,Bugati,Porsche and Mercedes.

Nowadays it seems like all the motor manufacturers are collaborating to build cars.Nissan,Peugeot and Renault.Volkswagen,Chrysler and Benz.Ford,Volvo and Mazda.VW,Porsche,Bently,Skoda,Seat,Audi and Bugati.VW and MAN.BMW,Mini and Peugeot.Daihatsu and Tata.Tata and Jaguar.Even Toyota and VW have some connections.

If you're talking about the same MAN as I think you are, then it only has one N. If not, I don't know that company...
