Everything you wrote applies to me too. I'm just saying there's no value added in complaining about the prices of things we can't afford. If you want it, find the money. If you can't afford it, keep your mouth shut.

Wow. Easy guys. There's way too much animosity going on here. Finances are an incredibly sensitive topic. The vast majority of us are all in the same boat. Having said that, place the same "sensitivity" (as in value) on another persons desire and passion to keep or buy a car that is in a "one-of-a-kind" original condition and the rivalry between the two cancel each other out. Some don't have the money and would go cheap, some do and wouldn't hesitate. It's unfair to battle this out as there is a conflict of interest. Some guys are genuinely passionate and determined to find/purchase the most original, unbutchered, unmolested car. They see it to be priceless as far as money goes and good luck to them if they have it. I'm not at all in a position to buy another car at this stage but I am not offended at all by the commentary at all. As justly said somewhere above, don't harp on and moan about exporters and in the same breath, complain about prices. Why will a seller, ANY seller turn down a far higher bid from an outside country? Be honest, if some deranged UK brat saw your "rust bucket" this side and you were in major financial crap and he offered you an astronomical amount that you'd NEVER get here - no strings attached, you can't doubt there'd be an interest on your part? Similarly, why will that same seller be forced to lose money by "giving" it away in SA?

Believe it or not, but there is a logic to it. We are in competition with currencies of far higher "value" than ours. And it's not going to correct itself anytime soon.

Unto those who've got shall get and unto those who don't shall lose.

Deal with it.

Not getting involved in the above arguments. But guys this is an offered thread not anything else. So lets all calm down and just let possible owners maybe gain interest in it without reading pages of unneeded critisism. if you saw the bus maybe add something constructive.

fig wrote:My comments stand; you don't need to take anything I say personally. And my comments cover the whingers who CAN afford these prices and even more to those who can't. If you can't afford it, shut up! Your whingeing adds no value. I also can't afford to buy buses at those prices and it burns me just as much that people on the other side of the planet dictate what is market value in SA. But, whether we like it or not, that is the reality. Whingeing about it won't change that. The challenge to all of us is to do whatever it takes to increase our own incomes. You're either up to the challenge or you're just another whiner.

And we all know that there are two markets in SA: cars like the two ovals and the collection sold in CTN recently that are still priced artificially low so poverty stricken locals can afford them; and then those that are being offered at prices that take any potential margin for exporters away. I have observed that cars in both categories sell to locals, and there are also cars in both categories that sit unsold for months (like the 57 SC). I know of at least three split buses that have sold to locals this past year for around R100k.

But my main point is, if you can't afford it, don't show off your poverty by whining about the prices of cars that aren't even priced close to global market rates. If a car is really overpriced it won't sell, and the seller will be left with the choice to reduce the price or keep the car. And that's nobody's business but the seller's.

As I already said: $how up or shut up!
If i smell prices are being made to high, i am gonna say something. who are you to tell me (directly or indirectly) to shut up!

Why do things always need to get out of hand like this?

There are too many sensitive people on this forum, too many arse-holes and too many nice guys...

You pick your category!

This could have been avoided as Fig was merely airing his opinion, albeit "Fig Bus biased" , and protracted. But this was his opinion. Chris posted the Offer, PINE and MINCE merely stated their opinions by saying that the price was INSANE and Mince agreed. There was no need for anyone else to get involved and fuel the fire.

Skymac, your comments were very uninformed and premature, when MINCE posted his "farewell :finger4u: message" under GENERAL DISCUSSION you jumped on the uninformed bandwagon, gave your opinion, and in your next post you asked and I quote:

"what exactly happened, what was the thread?

This is just "my opinion"... not that this means :bn: on this forum. Why hide behind "my opinion" ?? We should just say what we like as nobody really gives a rats ass about anyone else’s feelings any way. Come on guys, we dont really need this kind of negative banter on the forum. It is starting to sound like the scenarios at almost every VW club I know and have heard of.

ACVWSA is a place that pledged allegiance to no club, person or organization. We pledge allegiance to ACVW's only.... lest we all forget??

To the moderators involved in this scenario: 2 opposing strong opinions were clearly displayed to all today… I hope you guys can sort things out LOL! Pine you need a Fig Bus. Fig, you need a Pine beach buggy… maybe HW3??

Let me just hide behind my opinion and say the following:

R60 k for that bus is too much IMO, whether I have the cash to spend / blow (you choose) on it or not. OG buses at exorbitant prices are ridiculous. They are not worth that money as sadly the demand for them, disproportionately pushes them up in price. The bus could have been bought new for R3K – R4k in the 50’s and 60’s. Nothing makes that bus a R60k - R100k bus other than overseas demand, and our faltering SA economy. The USD and GBP are much stronger, making it almost like taking candy from a kid to buy an SA bus. Aussie buses are far more solid than ours, and I challenge anyone to disagree. But their economy is stronger than ours and they don’t sell out as easy as the guys, selling their or other peoples buses in sunny SA…

Also if anyone wants to sell his VW to anyone willing to pay the asking price here in SA or abroad, it’s the sellers prerogative to do so! Its nobody else’s business believe it or not….

In my opinion, the only real time value is added is when a ACVW is restored to better than OG condition, as more value had now been added to it…. Selling that volla is another matter. Not getting our money back for our ACVW’s is something we all know too well, but yet we do it….

Go ahead, just read this and smile, or go ahead and hurt my feelings…. :zhelp:

Come on guys, lets not lose focus!

Keep on bugging!
