Is anyone running these, and has a couple 1000kms on them?
And on what tyres?
Keen to see what (if anything) is happening to the sidewall behind the insert.
Thanks
Barry

I have run them for many a thousand Km's Barry, on 3 of my VW's.... my biggest concern / criticism is that the inside lip always detaches from the side wall of the white wall insert. I have tried fitiing mine with and without a lick of petroleum jelly between the tyre and the insert...yes Vaseline as a lube...
The lip that fits between the rim and the tyre always breaks away from the insert side wall. I have lived to live with this, although its damn irritating....
Check the attached pic...
I always run white walls on a rounded side wall like on a 165 SR 15 tyre as when using them on Low profiles (with a straight and decreased area size in the side wall), the insert NEVER sits flush on the tyre side wall, and ALWAYS has a old R1 coin sized bulge. These inserts then over heat on longer trips very quickly, and longer on shorter trips, and will eventually tear itself off the LOW profile tyre.... so low profiles are definitely a no no...

Never had this happen with the Omega's that I bring in. Muds has this happened to ant of the Omegas you got from me?
I sold a set of 14" Omegas to a dude that runs a Taxi, the inserts did 28000 km's until he replaced the tires, no damage to the tires or the inserts.
My 58 has now done 9000miles in 4 years and they are still as good as new.
The only time I have had a comeback on any of these was when a dude damaged them when they were incorrectly fitted. I have sold more than 60 sets in the last 4,5 years.

Sorry Rui, forgot to mention that I only expercienced this on the ATLAS brand and not on the OMEGAS nor on the VELTAS from italy that I used to bring from overseas...
A last year 3 of my club mates fitted them to Low profiles and Goblin< Benjamin (faheem) and Karjieker tore an insert or 2....
I always stress to everyone I know to fit them to older style tyres with a wide or rounder side wall and no problems...The problems I had with the ATLAS inserts like I said is something I have learnt to deal with...
Rui, no comebacks on my side with OMEGAS... ever, and thanks to you for sourcing these...
With white wall inserts, correct tyre pressure becomes even more important.... as it will hit you in the pocket x2.... early replacement of tyres and inserts....

At least 5 dudes that I have sold Omega's to have replaced either Velto's ot Atlas due to either discoluratiion (Veltos) or warping & out of shape (Atlas).
Not pissing on anyone's parade but Omegas are the best and affordable, R730 for a set at the moment.

Thanks Rui & Muds.
Heard a lot about them chafing and cutting the sidewall on radials, due to the radials' different sidewall characteristics/dynamics. I'm running 165/15 & 215/15's on the VolksRodster. Rim colour is a dark metallic blue and I think a white wall may be in order. I'll be in touch as soon as I get tyres mounted & see what it looks like Rui.
Any special do's & don'ts on fitting them? What's the procedure?
Thanks

Are Real white walls that hard to find? I've never really looked or wanted them. But wouldn't white wall tyres be better than inserts?
Or am I missing something?

Yip, hard to find. Taxi white walls are avail all over but not skinny beetle style. I know of somebody that can spray on a whitewall, looks very nice as well.

I haven't had any complaints about Atlas products from ayone that I sold them to. Although the same people that complaimed as you say Muderick have order from me, even yourself have ordered 2 sets.

Real whitewalls can be ordered from Doug Hirkam at CBY in Plumstead. Agents for Coker Tire. Pretty spendy but nothing beats the real thing.
White Lettered tyres (and skinny whites) can be ground/sanded till the white shows. Bit of an art and easy to screw up a tyre.
Whitewall paint gives varying results, general consensus is it doesn't last long. Best product is apparently a plastic/rubber paint from Krylon. (Krylon Fusion I think) I've seen Krylon at Bulder's Warehouse so someone mustbe importing their stuff. They may be able to get it for you.

Not shooting the ATLAs inserts down, Nizaam, just making comment from 4 or 5 sets of ATLAS inserts I have had experience with over the last 3 years. Like I said, my clubmates fitted them to their low profile tyres and they were damaged as result of not seating correctly on the minimised side wall. I have being doing the whitewall thing a little longer and speak only of experience.... Rui has backed me up on this as well, as barry asked for the low down on the inserts. The ATLAS is not as good as the Omega, and even Veltas, but like I said, its something that I HAVE learnt to deal with, and will still do so in future...
@BARRY: I have never found the insert to damage the tyre side wall, as it in no way 'digs' into the side wall. It merely rests on the sidewall, held in place by correct tyre pressure and as its slotted between the rim and tyre... the WIDE Whitewalls will look brilliant on your Volks Rod though...
