The flat spot you mention could be caused by warm air from the engine bay being drawn into the carb and upsetting the mixture. Air at 50 degrees Celsius is a lot less dense than air at 20 degrees.

Thank you so much for your response Jmvv. I do try to administer to my car the best way I know how. I find these cars very forgiving and mine usually responds positively to the slightest "calculated adjustment". I haven't got a compression tester/gauge nor the exact know-how to correctly perform a compression test. Excuses, I know ...Perhaps if you have one, we could try it?

Your writings on the possible cause for the flat spot sound perfectly viable in hindsight. I have attempted to adjust the mixture to precisely what was recommended according to a 1200 manual I have but don't doubt there would be a few more tricks to getting it perfect. It is old and a little weary after all.

I will certainly take you up on your offer if it's not too inconvenient. I'd hazard a guess at it being nearer the end of the month when I have a little more silver to cross you palm with

Coolios! Thanks Dubz,Klipz and James. The zhorst kinda kills the "beetle tone" right? That's the main result I'm looking for, a lil throaty and less beetleish zhorst note.

it kills the whistle sound and gives a loud thumper type sound...

but with the right type of silincer you can get it sounding like a normal motor...

yep that can also work...but bugspray what do mean by beetle sound?do you mean the wistle of the stock system or the sound of the motor that flat4 sound?
