There was an article in Volksworld about 5 years ago about the 1940's 4WD Kubelwagen, complete with photo's of the front suspension and drives.

From my understanding these were only prototypes. The 4WD was only as a very low range single gear. Normal 1,2,3 &4 was 2WD.

Iltis = Type 183. The only part is shared with a 181 was the windscreen.

Hi Baron, that is really very interesting, thanks for the info! I think one of the problems with an a/c military vehicle is the noise, which is a big no-no for tactical movement at night. The Jakkals Jeeps we drove when I was in the military were actually quite silent, and had a 'blackout' switch that would disable all lights, you wouldn't even be able to turn on anything 'by accident'.

The Rhodesian 'Leopard' was an air-cooled mine protected vehicle, this one is standing at the military museum in Johannesburg. Pics courtesy of Fig

Speaking of military ACVW's - this is a 1970 US Army FAV (Fast Attack Vehicle), with the weapons removed and currently in private ownership

The 1:10 scale radio control FAV by Tamiya is highly collectible today - would really LOVE to have one myself!
