That's the problem - different guys seem to interpret the law differently. I know of cars that went through legit roadworthy without mudguards.......

Don't know the actual wording, but I reckon as long as you have an actual mudguard fitted, you should be OK.

I've had a read through SANS 10047, the document that specifies what is needed for a vehicle to be roadworthy, it does not mention mudgaurds at all (except for trucks and motorcycles) so in theory it is perfectly legal without mudguards. However the guy at my closest roadworthy centre assures me he will fail my rod if it does not have any.

FWIW I've made up some ally cycle fenders for the front of my car. I'm not sold on them at all (three bolts to remove them) but my wife will be driving the car a lot and may not always remember to keep the wheels straight when driving through water - can make for an interesting experience

Do you have photos of the fenders and mounting? Looks as if I will need a pair to get through Stellenbosch roadworthy so the plan is to make a very small pair to keep the powers that be happy.
