And the fact that i see now there is no hose clamp securing the one side of pipe..

fig wrote:It's possible your steering box has been damaged through over-adjustment. As karma says, check out everything else in the steering system before messing with the box. Drag link and centre pin are the usual suspects, while tie rod ends, king and link pins and wheel bearings can also cause play in the steering.
I've got the one side adj just new tie rod ends and the other side a whole adj tie rod.(mine got to adj tie rods for futer tie rod end replacements (the one was fixed and the other one is adj).
I had my front brake drums re- align and the shoe's re- bond at vw trend

No, don't get rid of the fuel filter, you really need that !
Just remove it from the engine compartment, the fact that you are missing a clamp on the fuel line is "dangerous"
Reroute the fuel line from the tank in such a way that the filter is outside of the engine compartment, i.e somewhere near the gearbox. Would probably be a good idea to have a good look/replace all the fuel hoses while you're at it - then you know you have one less thing to worry about - get a new fuel filter at the same time

whats the big deal of having the fuel filter outside the engine compartment? That means you have to emty you fueltank each time you change fuel filters, right?

I am looking for a radio to fit to the fleetline, i would like it to fit in the original hole in the dash, i see that you get a radio in the uk with the 2 knobs on the sides, (it looks old school, but with some new technology
)that can take i pod or an aux cable, but do not see anything for mu bus, hope someone can help with this.
Def do not want to cut anywhere to fit the radio!

I put my cd frontloader under the compartment tray, just above the gear lever and handbrake lever. some puts it between the tray and the dash.
Yes dont cut the dash.

You are joking or are you genuine?
The point is the weakest point in youre fuel line is at the filter, what could happen is the preasure from the pump blows the filter off the line and pumps petrol all over youre hot engine and exhaust,......
flamable petrol + ignition source = FIRE!!!!! Although its not that easy to ignite petrol on a hot engine,(it sort of boils) its not imposible, but why take the chance?
And as for draining youre tank to change filters,.....get a pair of pliers and clamp the hose shut while you QUICKLY change the filter. Now remember the longer you squeezing that hose shut the more damage you causing it,so be gentle and work fast.

As for the brakes, once you understand how to work on them its super easy,I asked for advice on the forum and spoke to Fig over the phone,...now if its not rebonding of shoes I do my brakes myself.

That's why you shouldn't have your filter between the fuel pump and the carb. I don't see any issue with having it in the engine compartment, so long as it's on the low pressure side of the pump.
I'd also like to know why people say it shouldn't be in the engine compartment. Having it hidden away above the transmission just meakes it likely you'll forget about it.
