I know I know.... It surely must run again! Just found out this weekend the brakes aren't working anymore

It's all new stuff, but not using it for 6 years doesn't help...

What kind of carburators were used on the SP 1600? I already found out the manifolds are the ones from TDE and the stock 1600cc camshaft was maintained.

Very tiny update: Transported the Beetle to my new garage... by pushing it all the way (well, at least 1 mile). Once back home I got the engine started quite quiclky. My hesitation to sell it which I had for years now is completely gone. The car lives. Now trying to fix the brakes and get it through MOT once again. Just so I can drive a little in it. The complete restoration has to wait anyway, because of other duties I have...

Also my Thing needs some attention once in a while you know.
Still trying to find a set of 15 inch Rostyle wheels for it and the airvents which are placed next to the rear window inside the car. That onces are quite different from the European Beetles. So if someone has some of these lying around?

1970 Beetle had two deck louvres and no airvents behind the rear side windows.
1972 Beetle had four deck louvres and got the airvents behind the rear side windows.
The wheels on your car were made by Smiths Wheels and were originally called Trial Dusters
Just a little photo update. Gave it a quick clean after it spent 5 years totally forgotten under an old cracky carport (which already was collapsed, the roof just didn't touch the Beetle though

) It was quite dirty, but the rust didn't go any further those five years...
Then another question... the badge on the enginelid reads VW 1300... Is that correct? The enginelid isn't the original anymore I found out and jmvv's post confirms that. Was there originally another badge? And does anyone know the name of the color? Myself I think it must be Texas yellow... but it's a little sunbleaked it seems.

Still gathering as much as original parts for the "African abroad Beetle"... Can anyone help me out with this question (I asked the same question earlier... I know I know....): the badge on the enginelid reads VW 1300... Is that correct? The enginelid isn't the original anymore I found out and jmvv's post confirms that. Was there originally another badge? And does anyone know the name of the color? Myself I think it must be Texas yellow or maybe sunburst yellow... but it's a little sunbleached it seems.

The "VW 1300" badge sounds correct. From 1966 to about 75 it was from normal chrome-coloured metal. Late 70's models were from black plastic with silver letters.
Paint colours, codes, and names used by the VW factory in Uitenhage were different from what Wolfsburg used. Best to remove the fuel filler lid. Polish the inside (where the sun did not shine on). Then have paint matched to that.
