jolas wrote:Fig's persistence paid off in the end when managed to purchase his '57 bus from inside the warehouse - and he was also responsible for saving the rest of the wrecks (kombis) outside in the yard. There is a thread on that story. Did you ever see all the split busses there at the time ?
LOL!!! Persistence had nothing to do with it! I had zero interest in the yard buses and Eugene negotiated the sale of the 57. He pulled out of the deal and I stepped in; at that stage I didn't know the bus was in Stanford or that it was a package deal with all the yard buses! Unfortunately the free split buses thread was deleted in one of Eben's clean-ups.

I also saw all the buses, but he said they belonged to someone else (partner) and were not for sale. I wanted to swop the beetles for a Penta outboard motor but eventually that deal fell through. As far as I know he has a terminal disease and often than not in CTown so is no longer in the game, but I will get an update some time.
I am sure you love the bus though....?
Fig when are you coming down to fix you bus :?:

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

The front torson bar is bent and will have to be straightened. Any suggestions in Cape Town who can do the job.
The leaf spring bundle has one broken on top and one in the bottom.

After our chat today, I thought I'd check the thread, yip; it’s definitely time for an update.
I must say that I am looking forward to a few photo’s.

Cheers Brendan
