I remember somewhat diferent about that other one......
This one here is in a similar condition but no cap, rotor etc. If you are interested PM me and we can take it from there.

Re: Convert to electronic ign
So beamish buggies could probably sell an ignition kit. Then there's the imported ones. Petronix. Lumenition. Then there's the bosch 009 golf ignition DIY scene. Any other options?

No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

Re: Convert to electronic ign
BEWARE, The advance curve for the golf dizzy is all wrong for a aircooled VW, your power will be down, and a flat spot off idle is very common, the full advance on a golf dizzy is all in at around 3750 RPM where a stock aircooled dizzy is 2500 RPM. A couple of dudes I know running the golf setup were rather disapointed with perfomance using the Golf setup, one of them pulled it and returned to his trusted stock 010 dizzy. Fuel consumption will also take a knock due to this. You need to remember that a golf dizzy is intended to be used on a motor that can rev to 6500rpm and is made to work with this in mind, a aircooled motor barely getting to 5000 RPM using it is going to have issues.

Re: Convert to electronic ign
Here is my modified beetle dizzy using golf internals
The plate with the hall sender is a perfect fit into the beetle dizzy, no need even for drilling holes to secure it. I did loose the vacuum advance but that don't bother me.The cam for the points must be machined down a little to press fit the chopper plate. To get the rotor phasing correct, make sure the rotor is just reaching the number one mark on the distributor the same time the gap on the chopper plate starts to open at the hall sender. Hope this make sence. Then you will need a tp 100 and a electronic coil.
Here's a pin layout of the tp 100
Pin number 6 will be your signal wire (green) from the distributor

I have used golf internals in a WBX dizzy but never begolf into beetle.arnocill wrote:Here is my modified beetle dizzy using golf internals

Willing to give this type of thing a go.
You machined the beetle shaft to do away with the lobes, and what about the recessec for the c-clips, and the slot to keep the cutter in place?
Very interested.

Re: Convert to electronic ign
I have modified a golf electronic dissy to fit into a beetle but it was version without internal advance (All controlled by ECU). I would imagine that you will be able to change the advance by playing with the weights, springs and stops of the golf distributor if it will be worth the effort.

Re: Convert to electronic ign
I'm not to sure what recesses for the c-clips you're talking about calooker? The chopper or cutter plate don't have a key to keep it on the shaft it's just a press fit. I'll try and post better close up pic's tommorow if that will help

Re: Convert to electronic ign
I suppose you wll get the advance of the golf dizzy wright by playing with the springs. I had the golf internals lying around in the garage so it was the cheapest option for me, and you don't have to fiddle with the advance if you do it this way.Wentzel wrote:I have modified a golf electronic dissy to fit into a beetle but it was version without internal advance (All controlled by ECU). Re: Convert to electronic ign
Is'nt the distributor depicted above out of a 83-84 wasserboxer? All that's needed to run it is found in those production years.

Re: Convert to electronic ign
We had it available for many years on both the WBX and T4 powered busses in the early 80's, the WBX's available until the early 90's when the 2.1 was discontinued.ainokea wrote:Is'nt the distributor depicted above out of a 83-84 wasserboxer? So these Elec. dizzy was around for 11-12 years here, were also available on the 1.9 WBX's.
