Re: SA WW2 movie with Kubelwagen
Not to seem like a stick in the mud, but why are these German film makers noy PAYING for the privilege of using Danie's Kubelwagen?
If "They are however now in need of a Kubelwagen ", why are they not paying for it? Surely Danie does not need to cover his own fuel, accommodation, meals and other costs, let alone having to do it for free, even though Danie agreed to it. Im am sure that Jolas's concerns are the same as mine. What about the "WHAT IF's?" What if they damage the Kubel. What if it gets stolen? What if it breaks down to or fro?
My most worrying question is if they cant even cover Danies basic costs, how are they even going to cover any form of INSURANCE, if heaven forbid any of the above happens to the Kubel.
Guys this is just my opinion and I will save any of you having to K@K me out for it, but I feel that Danies Kubel is not worth all the risk, Gratis at that, for simply helping the okes out with their movie (which they are going to be paid for eventually).
Danie, shoot me if you like for this but, I feel that your Kubel is better off sitting in its garage for another 2 years, unless the German film makers can come to some agreement, in black and white, for the honour of using your Kubel. I feel you spent too much on it in monetary terms and more importantly, time.
I help some of my friends out with doing 1 day advert shoots, and even then we make sure of all the fine details, and that they are covered. None of these are done for free.
Just my 5 cents

Re: SA WW2 movie with Kubelwagen
Muderick, I understand your point of view but as I said in the start of this thread the film is being developed independently here in South Africa by the filmmakers themselves and it is an ambitious undertaking for a film of this scale. It does not have a very big budget, but I really admire them for taking it on in the first place. Using the Kubel replica might give some very nice exposure to ACVWSA.

Re: SA WW2 movie with Kubelwagen
I understood all you said in you initial post Pine. I still dont think its worth all the risk, and all the other reasons as previously explained by me.
I always feel that if there is any chance of risk or damage, you would want to be covered.
Im just stating my feelings based on the fact that if this had to be my Kubel, beetle, kombi, and anything happened to it, I would have to sit with the patats ...alone. Not the German okes, not ACVWSA, not anyone else.
At least ensure that there is some type of insurance while the Kubel is "on set". This is the minimal least as Im sure you will agree.

Hi Pine
You can't show pictures of Kubel's burning and expect me to keep up my side of the agreement, you made my stomach turn a few times. Still nothing that insurence wont cover (I hope).

Re: Angel of the Skies - SA WW2 movie with Kubelwagen
Got an sms from the 'Angel of the Skies' production team this morning, it seems like the shoot is set for 9 & 10 August. They might move it to the Gauteng area, to save production cost. Thanks to everyone for their willingness to help! Kind regards, Pine

Re: Angel of the Skies - SA WW2 movie with Kubelwagen
Hi Guys.
Andrew here, Producer of Angel of the Skies. We are despirately trying to get this Kubelwagen replica into the film on the 9th and 10th of August 2011. We are happy to be able to have the pleasure of featuring one of the Aircooled VWSA vehicles in the movie. All the help that we can get to from the community and from people that stand behind local films and and that have a passion for local productions: like the personal venture of the Kubelwagen being made. So all the money raised will go towards the travel of the Kubelwagen to the location that we will be shooting. We the makers of the independant film appreciate the support.

A quick update - the ball is rolling for the shoot to take place on the 10th and 11th of August somewhere in Gauteng (exact location not known). Thanks to everyone who has pledged to donate a few bucks to get the Kubel here, I will contact you in due time for the exact arrangements. It is much appreciated!

Hi Guys
Talked to Andrew the other night, everythings in place booked my leave swopped my standby dutys for that week and nearly packed for Jo'burg. I'm very excited will let Pine know where and when the Kubel will be there so if some of you guys wanna come and see it just let Pine know and we can organise something. Thanks for the great enthusiasm from all and concerns (Maverick) it has been taken care off with Andrew and the insurence company. Believe me all my other cars sleep outside under the trees and shade port but the Kubel sleep in the garage so I won't let anything happen to it or try not to.

Update:
If all goes well, Danie will be leaving next Tuesday (the 9th of August) from Lime Acres via Bloemfontein, and then take the N1 to Gauteng. I believe the shoot will proceed on the next two days.
Once again thank you to everyone for their support and pledges to donate a few bucks for the trip, herewith the banking details where you must please deposit the money to. I will also deposit my part, as promised - If anyone else want to donate something, it will be greatly appreciated! Please use as a reference ACVWSA, followed by your username.

Re: Angel of the Skies - SA WW2 movie with Kubelwagen
I'll never forget, when I was in Basics I had to ride the train to Cape Town from Potchefstroom to attend a court case (I was a witness to a car accident) and I sat across an old toppie with a pretty deformed face. Emboldened by my uniform and a few beers, I asked him what happened to him (he had a little MOTH tin hat on his lapel) and he said he had been a bomber pilot and had been shot down over Greece and had his face and forehead stoved in on the instrument panel. He told me the Germans put in a silver plate into his head, and he said, tapping on his forehead, it's still there. He opined that if he had crashed on the Allied side, he would have succumbed to his wounds.
They should all be remembered, these old heroes and their deeds.
I also remember standing parade on 11 Nov 85 at the memorial on the Heerengracht, and seeing an old WW1 (Dellville Wood) veteran eating out of a dustbin afterward. I took him to lunch.
