Yes it has the 5 bolt pattern where the flywheel bolts on
and the rear main is bigger otherwise it is similar to the normal beetle crank

What is your plans with the crank? Sorry don't want to hijack your project post.

To sell it and see if i can get hold of a normal 76mm stroke crank that was my original plan
so i would still like to build that motor over time thou
i just want a nice size motor with torq i'm not that much into speed if it goes 120kph
thats just fine by me

ok this is the engine that came from Edmund it sounds good with the dell's just need some adusting
and i'll fit the other exhaust as soon as i figure out where i'm going to put the oil filter
and the engine is leaking oil badly from the rear so it'll have to come out again
i also want to fit a std flywheel as on uphills it feels like the power fades but that might
also be the carbs that aren't set properly yet

I don't understand why its leaking at the rear main seal, it was fine when I ran it on the test stand
Shawn at Flat Four Racing installed the seal using the special tool and also used grease on it.
The endplay was set at 0.125mm or .005", the flywheel was torqued to 400Nm.
I wonder if the flywheel O ring didn't get pinched but surely that would have shown up when I7 test ran the engine.
I am really sorry about the leak but the engine sounds sweet but a little lazy when you rev it maybe the carbs still need to be dialed it

don't worry these things happen i drove it from work home no oil leak
the next day i drove to work and back again then it only started leaking when i got home
so i don't know exactly where it is coming from will have to take it out and see
yes i think the jets aren't 100% and the carbs need adjustment all i set is the float level
the mixture screws all same and the butterfly's with a feeler gauge and there was life
but as soon as the oil problem is solved i'll take it to the old oom that Bugger sugested
as i don't have a carb balancer or a co meter

Took her for a nice drive yesterday to brakpan and back around 60km got to
brakpan and she was hesitating heavy plug wire came off easy fix that, then she didn't
want to start not even a click nothing dead as dust, but all the lights gauges work so
we push started her started right up drove all the way home still a slight hesitation from
10mph to 25mph in 2nd on the highway she drove very nice at 60-65mph no hesitation very
nice as i reset the kingpin inclination on saturday i'm sure i have to redo the wheel alignment
as it doesn't feel right at speed
now it's time for all the small stuff fixing window winders rubbers fit rooflining and so on
don,t think i'm going to go with carpets rather rubberizing will cross the bridge when i
get there

Found the culprit faulty starter switch luckily i bridged the starter before i took it out
and she turned over fine, nice and fast went to the starter switch bridged it out there and
voila problem found fitted a new switch problem solved

i followed the golf distributor route and found me an old golf dizzy built the magnetic
pickup and breaker plate into my old vacuum advance dizzy got a electronic coil and
running it with a TP100 with vacuum from no.4 cyl on the dell's it has enough vacuum to
open the vacuum advance

got myself a carb balancer and a gunson colortune plug set the valves then ran it to
operating temp set timing at 28deg full advance at 2500rpm balanced the carbs and
sat down and set each cyl with the colortune plug took about an hour just setting
the mixture but hell's bell's it revs like it want's to climb out of the car a huge difference
it drives nice and smooth much better than the 009 dizzy with points
now to get it to the dyno to see what the power is like

yes i stuck with the lightened flywheel it runs much better with the carbs and timing sorted
so the flywheel stays
i'll post u a vid of it revving up much better than before soon as i take one

Juslaaik it's been a while

having too much fun driving around with my baja to get to work on it
but the fun stoped on the w-end when the GUD inline petrol filter burst that was behind
the fanhousing next to the g-box well out of the way LUCKILY "thanx Tonyz" advice
taken off the forum and well worth it !!!
replaced it with a steel fuel filter like on the fuel injected cars plastic sucks big time
get that filter out of the engine bay guys a burning car is no Joke
i was very lucky
but while driving around so lekker also found that the g-box don't wanna stay in 4th
so g-box must come out and off to Bugger she will go to have some magic done
so it will also run better with the big tyres
still sucks that after all that work the g-box has gotta come out bummer
but it's gonna be so much more fun after
