Hi Guys,

Insured my 1968 Rotary Turbo Beetle with Outsurance. 3rd Party Fire & Theft for 240 a month (5 mil cover). Comprehensive for 400 a month. Car's insured value is 6000 but i specified the engine for 35 k. All in all not a bad deal. Hope this helps.

Only thing they need though is a Level 4 VESA Immobiliser or else they wont cover theft.

I dunno how anyone can recommend Outsurance to someone else with a straight face. An insurance company is only as good as the day that you have to claim. Outsurance wanted to write off my old beetle when a truck reveresed into me because it was 12k's damage. Even though I had a specified value of R25 000 from a quote that was obtained from 2 different beetle specialist. They stated that it was not worth repairing and were ready to write it off. I got it repaired for R5000 and told Outsurance to F-off..

Hollard insure my Porsche for 3rd party fire and theft at an agreed value of R100 000 (non depreciating value). I had to provide an engineers report stating all of the mods on the car as well as checking that everything was done right (the report alone cost me R3500). It has to actually go in again once the 2.0 is out back.

Total cost......R130 a month.

Hollard will get a call from me then... This will be the first time iv had my own insurance so all new to me. My previous cars were on the old mans insurance but similar stories of writing the car off very easily.

Also, don't write off a broker, my R130 a month is after going through a broker.

Balance of third party insurance for Petrus is R73.14 with Outsurance.

And you get the free roadside assistance - Petrus was transported on a rollback to my shop, the time the front wheel bearing seized. 50 odd km and it did not cost me a cent.

insured value of vehicle?

Only third party for now, will upgrade it once the rust and paint gets sorted out!
They wanted R230 of something like that with an insured value of R7000 over the phone.
So I opted for third party only until my Beetle gets the full body restoration.

Isn't there any Theft value attached to your 3rd party?

Mine pays out 100K if my speedster is stolen.

Not sure, will have to go read the fine print.

Probably 7k as well, if that's what they have on the system then that should be across the board

All depends on what cover you want? 3rd party should be about R150 with pay out total being around 10-15k at best at normal rates at someone like outsurance.

I checked with my broker last night and paying R73.14 for only 7k's 3rd party cover if it's stolen is a rip off (that's if pay out value is R7000). I may be paying double at R137-00, but my cover is basically 14 times that if it's stolen with no excess. Shop around guys, Outsurance is not the do all of end all when it comes to insurance.

Our beetle is insured with Outsurance for 3rd party fire and theft. My son took the beetle to a VW dealer who valued it for R16,000.00, and Outsurance will insure it for that value. I pay a premium of R250.00 per month.

Pretty much any insurance company will ensure a vehicle for any value and will base the premiums on that value, just be careful when/ if it comes to payout. Unless you have a mountain of paperwork to back up that claim, they won't pay out that amount, you have to be able to prove that it's worth that amount.

They said (after agreeing on a value of R25 000) that my 1970 beetle was only worth R5700.

My advice to anyone with a policy on their car is to phone their insurance company and ask them, should the car be stolen, what is the payout total for the vehicle, take into account, depreciation (annually) admin fees etc and also ask what would affect the payout amount compared to agreed amount. They gotta tell you.

sterkte.......nice to see so many people with at least 3rd party. We've been hit twice by idiots with nothing and our insurance had to cover the repair bills for our cars.
