I must agree with Rui......
That said A crappy 911 with lots of issues of which rust is a major one will still be way more expensive than any of the other porsches.
The attitude of most 911 owners are :bn:
They leak as much oil as beetles :)
They dont handle that well either and is a real treat to drive
I have found those who work on them to be great people and willing to share info.

Me and Neels have been having this discussion many times and eventually it boiled down to cost issues.
My 1983 944 at R45000 delivers 220kmhplus performance for R45000 and is actually a very civilised car in all
The 924 turbo I had a while back matched a 911 in performance stakes (Year for Year) but it was a brute to drive and even going to the cafe turned into a race :D
Both the 924 turbo and 944 also uses an inordinate amount of Porsche only parts which is reflected in parts prices :?
The 914 was always blasted as a vw until you look at the parts lists and find most parts except the engine bear 901 and 911 part numbers in fact the six in the 914 was deliberately kept at 2 liters by Porsche when the 911 got the 2.2 Why? the 914-6 was faster and had better roadholding.
We see the same with the boxter which uses about 85% 911 parts the engine spec lags behind the 911 as the boxter will handle better.

The consensus we reached was that whilst for me a 356 or mid 80's 911 would be the ultimate I would and is very happy with the "lesser" model.

Most of us still settle for a beetle. Wonder why? :D

Herbie; the thing is now that you ticked the box, you will soon start looking for a bigger box.

I'm with Dirk on this one. Though i will admit it was hard letting go of my 924 and i do still miss it! What a fantastic car. Who knows, maybe one day i will go back to Porsche. I'm liking the 914's more and more....
