Now that is an interesting question. One thing that drives me up the pole is arguing with the 19 year old at test centres!!!
When taking my 59 beetle, for RWC, the point was made, the rear light may be red for all 3 (ie.stop, light, indicator.)
The front MUST be orange. no matter what.

This is because it was allowed, in the old days when these cars where 1st registered.

BUT, if you do not re register on the old Vin Number, but register on a Police number, or "Hand-built" number, it MUST be orange, and you can stand on your head, they will not allow it, even if it is a old restored car.

This goes for seatbelts as well.

This has to do with "First date liable for licensing".

NOW should you wish to modify the car, it is deemed to be "Altered" and then they can make you comply to the new rules, for new cars.

So you should only be able to do it on a restored car of that period.

As explained to me, Hope this helps

Herman

No you don’t. If you have a 70s ford f100 or a Valiant or any of the American cars of that time the rear lights was red only. If you take any of those cars for testing they have to pass them because that’s how they came out. If you have a very old VW with red only lights and those lights flashes red then it’s the same as that F100.

Led lights and control unit.
I hate it when someone fit aftermarket indicators on old vehicles that didn’t come with indicators. I manufacture led lights for a living so I developed a control unit for the rear lights that will work the stop, tail and indicator lights from the same led’s using one live and one earth wires. Everything will work from red only led’s same as the older American vehicles with the split switch system. We will have to convert your standard old lamps to led based lamps.
Hi there. Looking for an LED tail light solution for my '66 KG. Can you provide me with one? I've sent you an email. Please advise?
