Midas reduction-type starter...........damn those suckers are noisy....but it turns the motor over a LOT faster.

Is that a single port motor?

Jip single port 1300. Motor turns smoothly. So should be fine. Dropping it in next weekend. So should know what's what then.

:hangloose: go safe,

the Beetle looks very good apart from those rear fenders (what the heck was the previous owner thinking!!!). Has it been resprayed or is that the original colour, does anyone have any ideas on the name of that colour ?

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Thanx. Got home in one piece. And the beetle was loaded with tools so it started to eat into the tyres. So the guy sacrificed the fenders rather than the tyres. and original color. No idea what the name is.

Haha Thanx!

Yeah so it was quite a trip. Got to the farm. Pushed the beetle up on ramps. Fitted the motor quite easily. Started her up and didn't want to go... Ok. So starter doesn't want to spin... Mmm... Ok forgot it had a alarm and immobiliser. Ok that sorted she swing. But no start. Add a bit of petrol to the carb. Flat foot and she takes. Running with a miss. Check all the plugleads and whoops. Two are the wrong way round. Sort that and purring nicely. cool. Get it off the ramps and check the breaks... Mmm. Nothing. Fill it with beak fluid. Pump it a couple of times and bam the is some brakes.

Getting ready for the trip home. Packing in the spare engine etc. And where off. Drives Ok for around 10km. Then stops the first time... Ah the one cable came off the coil. Fitted it again and running.

30m from riviersonderends garage we die without fuel... Could only take 5l. Haha. So fuel in and doesn't want to start again. Push start for the second time. Oja I forgot to mention the car is 12 and it had a geni  so no charging the battery.

Off we go again...

...to be continued

So filled up and off we go again. From reviersonder end we drove about 30km before it dies... Again... Check everything again. swap the distributor and boom of we go. Purring nicely! Drive all the way to Standford, no problems. Around 50km. Get to the Standford turnoff and no brakes. Haha. Trip from there went Ok to about 10 km from hermanus... Beetle started loosing power and the bleh. Just died. Fiddled around again and off we go again all the way to sandbaai. At sandbaai turnoff I couldn't find 1st so tried to pull away in second. Was jurking badly and then just a grinding noise. so think I killed the clutch. Towed it the 1km to my house and there its standing now.

So Ja need to pull the motor again and try and get it running...

Oh also i saw the back window was completely loose when we got back to sandbaai. Just glad it didn't fall out on our way back.

But at least its here and now the work can start!
