Ja, the rear bumper can be quite a challenge to find - even for the later model bay window busses. It seems that in many cases they were'nt put back on after an engine was put back in - and they probably got chucked out or sold without the bus, etc, etc, etc.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Depends where you take it I suppose, you can always try and convince them that it did'nt come out with a rear bumper - I can lend you one for the test if it comes to it.

Just take the mounts off before hand ;)

The proof is in the driving. Post some pics up here once you have looked at it and possibly we might help point out a few areas of concern.

Hi there

I went to see it and underneath there is only one section of the frame with bad rust. The rest appears sound. The section is small enough to cut out and replace.

The body appears to be covered with a filler to make smooth and then painted. It is about 3 or 4 mm thick and there are cracks in it. I could peel a strip off. Under it it has light surface rust. I checked the floor and it was solid both top and bottom, but there is bubbling rust around the front windows along the lower sides and bottom.

On the pic of the compartment it looks like a strip has been replaced along the bottom or do they all look like this? Can you see it from this?

There is a rear bumper. The engine is leaking a few drops of oil from the sump and all the other mechanical parts look sound.

I didn't drive it yet as I wanted to brink a friend who is a fundi on VW's, although he can't view until next week.

Anyone know of this vehicle, good / bad input welcomed!

Thanks
Rob
