Thanks for the help with the pics.

I bought the the blue one (late bay) first to restore it and in my quest to find a affordable splitty found the late bay at a good price and it is in a better condition than the blue one, so I decided I'll just use the blue one for spares.

I was just curious why the early bay had disc brakes and the late bay didn't.

I noticed today that the black info plate behind the driver seat on the earl bay say origin Germany and on the late bay its Brazil maybe that's where the difference came in. I'll see what I can find on my good friend Google.

I see you bought your spares cab from that guy in springs, that was a good price. How's that motor and gearbox, still sweet? That sparesare you cab is worth 3 times the price that you paid for it if that motor and gearbox is sweet. Will be following your project. Where in Heidelberg are you, in town or out on the smallholdings.

Hi Johan I also think it was a bargain, I don't know about the gearbox yet but the engine is still running like a Rolex I put n new coil and plug wires in and it started on the first kick after apparently standing for years. But I think the early bay was a bigger bargain, it has much less rust, is complete and I drove it all the way from Germiston and only paid 5k for it.

My vin # 2612215884. Its an earley bay with the small tail lights and the low front indicator, it has disc brakes in front and the small pcd weels. What is a bit confusing to me is that I bought another one for spares witch is a late bay with the square long back indicators and the front high indicators, but it has drums front and back with the big pcd rims.

The early bay also has the crossmember at the back and the late bay doesn't altho both have 1600 TP engins.
Yes, from your VIN you have a 71 SC.

The late bay you have was just to confuse people. It is a Brazilian, sold from 76 to 78, so unlikely a 74. The Brazilian VINs follow a different pattern, but the third digit still represents the year model. These Brazilian late bays were in fact split buses mechanically, with the addition of baywindow cab and associated bodywork. Although it's newer than your early bay, the mechanicals are similar to split bus.

Now thats very interesting.......

That is the 1st Brazilia, that I have seen with the VWSA plate on it.

I know the Fleetlines had them, but was always under the impression that Brazilia's where imported by someone other then VWSA

And also that they where only imported for one year, same as the Fleetline (1975), BUT I have now seen Brazilia's from 1976, 1977, and 1978.

Should try to find more info as well as how many made it into South Africa in total.

Anybody Know ?????????????????????? :zhelp:
