Just a bit more on that:
you did get a 1600TP too, the 1300's were the 1303 base and 1303L if I'm correct and the 1303S was the 1600, some countries had the 1303S with fuel injection and trim and spec. was diffirent between the models, you did get a 1302 model too, it had a flat windscreen and longer bonnet and a steel dash (sometimes with a dashpad on it), the 1302's was 1971 & 1972 models only, with a 3 bolt strut, same as the 1973 yearmodels that was the first 1303's, august 1973 they changed to the 2 bolt strut(most of the front suspension parts are not interchangable between the 3 bolt and 2 bolt setups), the 1303 was manufactured in sedan form from 1973 to 1975 or 76, the cabriolet model was however continued until 1978. There is one special thing about the 1973 beetle regarding the bonnet, it was a one year only bonnet, the tip is ever so slightly more rounded than the 1974 & on models and it has no bump or raised piece at the base of the chrome handle where the 1974 & on looks a bit more square and it has the raised piece at the handle.

The 1303 badge is like hens teeth in S.A. I didn't have one on my car & got lucky, I bought one off of a forum member here a while back..

The best way to check the engine displacement is when the heads are off the motor, measure the bore of the cylinder, the stroke is 69mm on the 1300 & 1500 & 1600 the bore on the 1300 is 77mm on the 1500 it's 83mm and on the 1600 it's 85,5mm - visually the motors look the same especially if they have TP heads on, the motors gets swopped out in the wink of an eye, mine was a factory 1300 base model 1303 but when I got it it already had the 1600 motor in it.

P.S. will keep an eye out for that 1303 badge for you..
