When building a fibreglass tank, you have to seal the inside with a sealer. We used Petseal (google it) and have done this on 3 tanks already with zero issues.

Drusky wrote:You may as well seal your existing tank using Herman's method, easiest method and most cost effective. I treated a bike tank this way with superb results. Thank you Herman!
You more then welcome ..
I have seen a tank with rust holes the size of 10c pieces, taped up on the outside with masking tape, after being de-rusted, and sealed my way, then when dry, sanded outside and painted, to look as new, with out a leak for ten years.
Did my Morris 10 tank like that, as there where no other option, and it worked excellent, sold the car like that, and the new owner still goes to shows with that same tank, no body ever noticed that it was a Swiss cheese tank.
Just trying to help.

thanks guys for the all the advice .will save us alot of trouble .
don't even want to waste time with a fibre glass tank anymore.
if there is a way to have a a plastic one made this will be preferred over the steel one ,even if one is made out of stainless steel even better .
but that might cost much more in stainless steel .
i know stainless steel works ,We have a Speed Queen washer with a stainless steel drum which is about 20 years old .
No rust at all on it .
will still try the sealer on the original tank though .
Sounds like the sealer actually works pretty well as Herman has experienced this himself .
and costs much less .
would a automotive paint store stock this .
I've used rust remover in two beetle tanks before this also works well ,but could rust after a while since the rust remover cleans up all the rust leaving the metal clean and unprotected against moisture .
do you just shake the tank around to coat it on the inside with the sealer .
Thanks Herman.
