So I have taken the plunge, and started making 20 sets of rock & Roll seat/bed brackets.

As they can be used for "full" bed, 3/4 bed or 1/2 bed this will make it easy for the customer, as if he wants to change the bed, after a few years, he can.

Will work out cost when these are made, so that the saving of mass production can be passed on.

Still not sure if they should be electro -plated, e-coated, or powder coated. if you have an opinion about this, let me know, as this has to be done before being riveted together.

Will post pics when ready.

I would say not to powdercoat. It will chip where the bolts are and where the metal rubs against each other. Plating will probably work better. Keep me posted please. I am very keen on a pair.

You've worked it all out very well considering we just had the brackets and no clear idea how everything went together.

The only bit I don't like is the folding front support legs. Have you had a look at how that is solved on the early bay westies? They have a pair of W-shaped brackets that rest on the front panel when the bed is down; probably not quite as sturdy as the folding legs, but one less step required to open the bed, and mrsfig and I have tested it very well with no threat of the bed collapsing.

There is a time when a couple are in bed, that the idea of the bed collapsing, Should not be the only thing on your mind... .. .....

The legs are not a necessity, as the bed is firm and steady with out them. but being in engineering, I tend to over engineer.

The guy that fits his own bed, can decide if he wants to fit them or not, at least he will know where & how to fit them..

You will find that where I used 40 x 40 x 3 mm angle iron, you could go down to 2 mm, but I feel, that you use the bus for fun, you do not want to have bed breakdowns just because you got to "Feisty" on the 1st day, and now have to cancel the rest of the holiday.......

Thanks for the offer, you can, but I have a fold away that does the same thing, and will not take away space under the seat.

The reason I did not go that rout, was that that bracket needs to go some where, now mine folds up and has no detrimental effect on the packing space.

Good work, I like the whole design including the legs, the extra time it takes to setup is worth the strength.

The westy brackets go inside the under seat box when the seat is up. They are close to the sides so in practice they don't really take up significant space.

Just as idea's, I have posted pics of the support my bed has that's fitted in my bus.

You will see it rests in the middle of the seat base when in the bed position. It provides ample support. When retracted into the seat it moves down also providing support as well as lowering the seat base. No need for folding legs.

This might sound like a stupid question but could you leave your middle seat in and still use this bed?my dad's bay window had a bed in the back but retained the middle seat. I'd like to do the same to keep it practical.

Not sure you will get a "Full" bed (more then 1800 mm long) in between the back and the mid seat back rest.

maybe a kids bed, then you still have to clime over the back rest to go to bed.

Much better to turn the mid seat around to face the other way, then you have the best of both worlds.

Should you keep a look out on this thread, you will see my next set of brackets solve this problem.........

The reason I ask is that I want to use the bus to go camping but I'm trying to keep it looking as original as possible.
