VW had a competition some time in the late 70's to find the oldest Beetle in SA. That is when they discovered the 49 that is in the Uitenhage museum.
It stood in the former Kleinjukskei museum in Johannesburg North for many years before going to Uitenhage.

Just as a matter on interest, here is the World's oldest known VW Beetle.

"At the time they were still known as 'KdF wagens' or 'Kraft durch Freude / Strength through Joy' cars, a Nazi propaganda term. Informally the term 'Volkswagen' or 'People's car' was already common though. It's from 1938, one of the VW38 prototypes. This picture was made in 1999 in the Volkswagen museum in Wolfsburg. The car is still there today."

Suffice to say its PRICELESS !!

Muds,

Is this VW38/6 the one found in Lithuania or even older than that?

I know at one stage they were selling a Picture of VW38 with small stamped and signatured pieces of VW38/6 on the Samba. I inquired to purchase the large box portrait(with small piece inside), but they sold out within days of the ad.
