Plenty of these MP9 bits floating about,
I regularly see bits and pieces advertised on some of the VW pages on Facebook as well. Can get all those bits together for way less than R7k.

Yes it seems gathering bits and pieces would have to be the way to go.

screw that shit..........go have a look on the vwclub forum sa and ask around.
I double checked last night and I paid R2500 for a 1.4i box chipped to 2.0 and I paid an extra R750 for a new harness as I wanted the shorter one. But that is still way off 7k. Lemme ask around this weekend and see if there is anything floating about.
Friend of mine owns a dyno shop down in cape town. He said that he pick up with the new ecu box on the 1.4i and 1.6i, like in the velociti , is really clever units. if you change the heads or like cams or even bigger cc size, the air flow sensor pics it up and adjust the ecu box. the motors run nock sensors, so it can pick up if something is not right and adjust every thing.

I think that's where the confusion comes in .Harry has a carb model engine that he wants to convert to mp9 FI,so. He is looking for the whole setup ,not just the ecu and wiring

@Harry ,have you got the right head on your engine with the oval inletports for the FI manifold to bolt onto ?

Well the mechanic said the head could work .....and he knows a whole lot better than me. I'm not sure and that's why I would prefer to get the whole complete thing so that we didn't have to "modify" things too much.

mp9 systems are not cheap , we sell a harnass and chipped box for 4.5k , then you still need the injector harnass fuel rail, pressure regulator ect , altitude sensor (new R800-00) , Throttle body (new R2180-00) , knock sensor (new R700-00), 4 pin temp sensor (R120-00 new) fuel pump anything from 1k and a intake manifold ,if City used includes all these with a head its cheap as chips

.Ist much much cheaper using a aftermarket fi system but the mp9 system is so sorted there is just never a issue with them perriod !

Thanks I understand. Thing is, I already spent over 7K and want as far as possible now to limit the damage without compromising a good result.

Harry, will you be selling the bits that comes off your engine? I'd be interested in that weber carb if it's in good nic.

I actually have a few 36 Weber carbs of which 2 are very good as far as I know. Also have probably 2 other in spares. One of the webers I'll keep for another project but I'm sure we can talk about the others.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, okay, so you're going from carb to EFI..........
Ever think about selling the motor as it is complete and just buying a complete EFI motor from the importers? Engine Den has a huge stock of motors, I think they're selling them for R4800 now. That way everything is pretty much stock.

You know, that might in the end not be such a bad idea. And that way I can still get some coin back for my engine as it is in really good condition. Although I would prefer to prevent having to all the paperwork doing that, it might be worth exploring I think.

You could even transfer all the needed parts from the "Engine Den" engine to yours. Then fit your carb system to the Den's engine and sell that... No need to change engine numbers on documentation then. (No Data Dot expenses, wasted time in government ques, etc.)
