This was one recently up for sale, also a cross-over Deluxe

This one used to be Mark Saul's down here in Cape Town. Also, another Westfalia cross-over.

This one belongs to a friend of mine in the Eastern Cape.


This one was at the KKK Kamp out this year, another Deluxe model.

Lets leave this one going. Only count a handful so far but I guess this will never be a good representation of all crossovers out there in sa. If I can ask the forum if you spot one lets upload the pics and see what we get too.
I just get the impression they are out there but a bit rare.

They are not scarce, they may have been build for a limited time in the change over period but there's actually lots of them around. I've got loads more pics of local cross-overs I must still share.

Saw a single cab a couple of deluxe busses and campers. Double cabs ?
Do you think they are more sought after, crossovers, being limited or is early bay more sought after at this stage? I personally prefer the lowlight to the high light buses for instance but the 72 I think has best of both with the front disk brakes already standard. I off course love the 72 because I personally am also a 72 model so it makes sense for me to go for something that rolled off the floor in 72. Hopefully I did not my parents won't admit it at least.

I personally think they are the least desirable being a bit of a bastard mix, but what I like about them is they have the engine bay for the Type 4 motor with much more power.

Again, they are not limited, there were plenty of them manufactured.

Remember, several of the other year models for even less than a year are also unique. Yes, the cross over externally has quite a change, but what about a low light 71 that is a low light body but has the later wheels and disk brakes? This was also only a short while. 1968 bays had several unique interior features to what was used in the 1969 models, and again different to 1970, and again 1971, 72 and 73, all being unique.

Sean. Thanks for the feedback this is what makes it so interesting. There are a lot of small features in all the buses that make it unique. Guess this is why we love our busses so much. This is also why each one of us has the ability to choose the colour and interior of their bus or beetle. We are all unique just like our vehicles.

I agree with Sean that the 1972 is the least desireable, but that's just a matter of taste. For me, the ultimate baywindow bus is the 1971, still with classic early bay styling, but with disc brakes standard.

As Sean says, there were numerous one-year-only features on every year of early baywindow production: 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972. The unique features are just more visible on 72s. With 1972 being the peak year of ACVW bus production, it will never be correct to say they were limited production.
