I didnt want to say before you checked the valve gaps, but its likely that you have a loose seat - the T4 engine has a reputation for dropping its seats on well used engines in busses.

I have had a few dropped seats and they are open heart surgery in the end BUT I would say do a thorough service on the engine and check that everything that can be done to set her up is done. Check everything one last time then start your bus and see how she runs.

If you pull the plugs do a compression test as well, not perfect but will tell you if there is an obvious seat issue.

Once everything is checked, set the timing and ensure that your vacuum advance etc is all working properly as well.

-- I have had many a heart attack about dropped valves that did not exist and I have had heart attacks when dropped valves did exist. So tick off each item first to be sure before you take out the engine.

-- My view is now that taking out the engine is my last resort these days after every other alternative is exhausted.

and Organics shampoo only costs R44.95 a saving of R32.00

All the best on your engine. As Tony says that could have been much worse.

you have found the result....

Now remember to look for the cause.

This looks as if the cylinders ran hot, thats why they drop the valve guides.

Some thing went wrong with the tune up. If this has not been addressed, when you "Run In" the engine, it may over heat again and do the same thing.

May sound negative, but have seen the same happen here on the forum on new rebuild engines.

Heres hoping for a quality start-up.
