Normally when this happens you will hear it progress, starts with light clicking to then knocking, it doesn't just seize at the drop of a coin, you missed the warning sounds. The loss of power is the last sign, this is when the rod / crank is melting the bearing.

If it was from overheating alone, the oil would have a burnt carbon smell and you would have damage to more then one bearing surface.
