Its stronger, lighter, thinner and you can leave it wood grain, or you can flat it down, and paint it high gloss.

Me too, when I was a student I built up the inside of my Kombi as a camper with Marine ply crates. Took a gas flame to it and varnished lasted forever. Friend made his from standard ply, first visit to the coast and it started to de laminate and fall apart.
