I spoke to the Consultant today. He spoke to me about what we want and what we need.

He has assured me that insuring our cars won't be a problem and that tracking won't be needed.Packages will be put together and will be offered only to the members on this site.He gave me an example of how it would work in my case, and first of all it works out cheaper with my current insurance with my Notch included and certain things specified.

Secondly,it will be underwritten by one of the biggest companies in SA.

He said that cars will be insured according to a replacement value, iow,if your Beetle is insured for R15000 and it should get stolen, they will pay out that amount so that you can replace the car.

Cars will be checked at a inspector to look for damage such as old accident damage, broken or cracked glass, scratches etc.

It will be a no nonsense package. As soon as he gets back to me about the details and the company that will underwrite the policies,I will post it here with contact details.

Spoke to the broker again today and I need to know the following:

1)Which panel beaters can be used and will work on ACVW's in Jhb,CT,Pta,Bloem and Durban.

2)Accessors in the same cities as above that can valuate a ACVW to be insured.

3)I need at least 2 suppliers of spare parts i.e. body panels.(Rui?)

4)I will need a loss history from everyone that is interested, over the last 5 years.

5)Eben,they want to know if it is possible to ad a link to the forum that you can "click" on that will link you to a application, and once you filled it in,it will send it to an e-mail address that they can then follow up.

Chris,
I dont realy need insurance now , buggy s value is to low to win anything but I will insure it if you need numbers to get the guy going.
Is there a special form to fill in ( Im not english so I dont fill forms out ha ha ) or format that he would need the info in.

Once the scheme is going I will see if he can do my Porsche as Im now insured ( sommer over the phone ) at Outsurance and you guys gave me a fright with the horror stories of their track record.
Keep pussing thi one Chris.

We are still working on the details, but it will be made easy to get insuranse. It will be underwrtied by the biggest insurance company in the world,so there will be no horror stories.

My insurance is being moved there, and it's working out to about R200 less a month with everything insured including other things that weren't insured previously.like my Notch.

Cars will be insured at replacement value. In other words,if you have a Beetle that was valued at R15000 and it gets written off or stolen, that is the amount that will be paid out to replace the car.

Even if it's older than 15 years?
What kind of factor will age play in this?
This has been my major stumbling block so far, Lady is 40 years old and the moment they hear that they stop talking to me.

That is the whole idea behind this,is to ensure all our cars,no matter age.Insurance will be done according to what it will cost you to replace the car.

NOTE:Not what was spend on the vehicle, but what it will cost you to buy another car.Iow,if the value of the car should be determind at R20 000 and it should get stolen or written off,the amount that will be paid out would be R20 000.Age does not apply at all.

Chris

I think that the best option that people should be looking at is a 3rd party fire and theft style of insurance that covers your car if it is knicked or destroyed in a fire.

Even trying to go through my old insurance insuring my speedster for R50 000 would have put me back R490-00 a month, because the locks don't meet requirements set by todays standards as well as the car being a convertable. Plus they wanted a tracking device installed as well that would add another R100 to my montly premiums. (this tracking device can easily be hidden on a modern car, but on a beetle, there are only so many places it can go)

The key word is to shop around.

I approached my guy to look into it for me and he got me a deal through Hollard for 3rd party fire and theft with a total value of R100 000. No tracking device needed. I did however have to get a gearlock installed. They did an inspection as well.

Total cost is R189-00 a month. Car can be repaired at any shop.

MY biggest problem is that the insurance companies need assesors that actually understand what is happening. Especially when it comes to modified cars.
Last time I tried to get a quote, the price went up 30% because I had removed the old drum brakes and added disks - you have modified the braking system, therefore the car is unsafe....

It would also be nice to have a pay per km arrangement.
