Hi, is that colour for your '71 the original gold (code 06 according to the VWSA colour code published elsewhere on this forum)? If it hasn't yet been resprayed it is looking very good! I've also got a 1971 1300 twin port with the original 06 colour.

Thanks type2, ja not my fav colour but all original paint and seals, i won't be reapraying it, only fenders that have light damage, needs a good polish and the shine will come back. This was enamel based paint correct?

It didn't used to be my favourite colour, but it seems to be such a common colour for 1970s Beetles in South Africa. When I see one in that colour it brings back fond memories of growing up in the 80s. I now love it to bits and won't be respraying my one, which is also in a reasonably original condition.

So it's been a while since I last posted here. My 62 is still going great, no troubles yet, engine has settled in nicely and has plenty power, considering a stage 1 clutch though. I have done a lot of work on my Beryl green '71, from here on known as Klaus, so named after the German oomie I baught it from. I have since repaired al dented fenders and rusted door, but retained all original paint from the door trims up, deck lid and bonnet, it is a sympathetic restoration and was driven throughout most of the process. The interior rubber carpet, seats and steering wheel were in such good condition that I opted to take it out and put in storage if ever it was to be returned to an original state. So in went some nice comfy Tombstones, Momo wheel and regular old carpet. Here are some pics of the process. All fenders were dented and some rust on the usual spot in the doors.
