Re: 1963 - "Blue Bird" Beetle

So I got a call from Jurgen during the week...."I need to see you he said, can you come now?" :crying:

Worry started to set in.....have I bought a lemon :jerkoff:

So this morning after 5 hours sleep I got up and headed over to the garage......walked in and can't see BB (aka Bridgette) Panic set in....looked all over and the only thing I see different is a pale blue '62 Beetle in untouched condition. Jurgen says "Do you like my new car? One owner from 1962!".

So I say where's BB? :argue: "Oh she's over there on the lift!" I look across and :surprised: :surprised: :surprised: :surprised: :surprised:

There she was....well what was left! So in one week she's been stripped and I mean stripped! :whip: :whip:

So he says, lets run over. Only bit of rust I've found is the corner of the front windscreen has rotted through! He says. The the lift goes up and he says look at this! 8) The pan is totally original and on the right there's not even so much as a scratch under. Jurgen says he's never seen this before and it's totally surprised him :D . He says to me, good clean and he says that's that done!

He says already gots the wings, bonnet, boot and all the interior parts at the panel beaters! When you get back you need to come in here on the day you land! I need you to agree the final colour as he has to down tools if I don't! :drink: :hangloose:

For the first time in a long time I was speakless. Bugger has almost finished the box! He's amazing  and then this visit today and I'm so blown away! :jumping: :jumping: :drunks: Jurgen, Ismay and the Team are unbelievable! :drunks:

So then he say's this isn't the original motor,I say I know.....I have the papers as they replaced in 1994. Jurgen says, you OK is I make it original....."YES" :D. Then we walk across to the work bench and there is a pile of engine bits....really dirty and covered in oil, it's the 1600 TP engine that Chris got for me and Jurgen says this was close to dieing. The crap :bn: that was in the sump......and he shows me a tub of hard :bn: . So what we going to do with this then. "Shall we have some fun?" he adds. :zhelp: One thing to know is that Jurgen has been working on VWAC's for 46 years and he used to build and race (not on the strips but off-road) Beetles!

So I think he's blown me away so far! so my response is "I'm going to leave that to you......surprise me! No rules ot restrictions I add!" If I need money, I'll sell the kids! OK "MO" first and then the kids!

We agree that we will make it so that I can fit the standard engine and if I want fun we can swap them over!!!!! YES!!! So hopefully all the purists will be happy and I can still have a car that will cruise at 140 to 160! :drink: :drunks:

Ismay took some pictures so I will add them when she sends but "BB" in under the knife and I know without doubt this is going to be even better than "MO". Jurgen added, how good do you want it? I said as good as your 58! He said, can't do that but I'll get it to 99.98% close....I have to have the best one (smiling)! :D

Pics to come when I get so DON'T bother asking.....I'm on a plane so can't take any now!

It's Grand Slam Brake and Clutch....On the Strand. Jurgen's main business that allows him to do the restoration work (as everyone knows there's no way you could survive on restoration only jobs in SA.....no one will pay). He can redo and make any brake parts or clutches....that's why MO runs and stops so nicely....he redid all the parts to original spec.

Happy to take you one day when I'm back.

Do you think this posts will roll over toanother page?

Oh, By the way, Jurgen did say it's not the stripping that takes the time, it's the putting back together as every parts has to be overhaulled.....including all the window and lock mechanisms.
