yah not sure of why it's so high right now. The previous owner fitted Gabriel heavy duty shocks, i mean Beetles are known for their love of heavy loads and all that jazz.

yes please. All i need is the carpet set. I can sort out some underlay myself, just need a better quality carpet to go over the top

Right sorted the no starting issue. I knew it was fuel delivery related, and having since replaced the hoses and filter, thought it could have been the reserve tank valve, which it was.

I need to drill the front bumper to add the number plate. It's a nasty hack but the cops down here are c***'s, so rather have it on than face a fine
This now means I need to get a new floor reserve tank lever, so off to Wolfsburg west I go.

Rant Mode On:

The cheap shit brazilian/aftermarket parts that aren't made in Germany by a man named Hans who has a wife named Hilda and enjoys long walks in the Black forest, are wank. We spent more time yesterday modifying the crap than fitting it. The rend result is that the quarter vent window doesn't shut properly still. I need to find 100% german versions or someone who might even have semi-decent originals.

Rant Mode Off:

I just need to lube those bad boys up, fit the door furniture and wind them up and down so that it becomes a smooth movement.

In other news, the clutch pedal is giving issues. There is a click (feels like a lip) when you release it, which results in a very un-smooth pedal travel movement. Bugger thought it could be the pedal itself, so I need to whip it out and see what's going on.

A happy time though, the windows are in and the end is nigh

Hi Dsan... I had exactly the same issue with my clutch pedal. If I'm not mistaken we'll have the same type of pedal cluster arrangement... It was one of the most frustrating jobs I've done on the car so I wanted to give you a heads up...

My "click" came from the molded, looped end on a new clutch cable installed by the PO catching on the clutch guide tube right at the pedal cluster. Getting the cluster out was pretty easy. Disconnect all cables: accelerator cable at the carb, clutch cable at the wing-nut end. Remove cir-clip from brake pedal which keeps the brake push-rod engaged. I then unbolted everything I could starting the cover plate/box on the left side of the tunnel that protects the working of the accelerator pedal linkage and moving on from there. You'll see how it all works when you get into it... I extracted the cluster letting the clutch cable loop disengage from the hook on the clutch pedal shaft. Easy to let it disengage but HELLISHLY difficult to hook back up when you want to put it all back!

Do yourself a favor and double check the "meatiness" of the hook on the clutch pedal shaft as they often wear due to obvious friction. If it looks brittle, either replace the entire pedal or have it beefed up with a spot of intricate welding as you'll find out, you'll NEVER want to take out that cluster again. I disassembled the entire cluster when I got it out and gave each bit a good wire-brushing and greased all the moving parts up independently before reassembling. This made a huge difference to the pedal operation when everything was back in sit u.

As far as actually correcting the problem, all I did was poke about with a screw driver in the tunnel aiming to "flare" the guide tube end so as to allow for free movement of that molded looped end when it's sliding in and out. It's a tricky hit-and-miss operation and the spaces are really tight. Patience is the virtue...

Tip: When trying to get the cluster back in, pull as much of the clutch cable into the cabin and hook it onto the cluster first. Then use some contortion-ism and a lot of composure to feed the cable back in and manure the cluster (still connected to the cable) back into place. Don't let the clutch pedal fall forward when it's in place as the cable will unhook and you have to start all over again! :roll: :roll:

As said to Daniel if i Knew it waqs the aftermarket :bn: He would not have convinced me that easily to help him :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

These rubbers were really no joke to fit
At one stage with the cutting blade in hand trimming the rubber I said to dsan I feel like a Sergeon slicing in to the rubber :shock:
