Not while I am in Papua...
But seriously, you should see some of the stuff I get to read from young engineers... In university, they now teach you to write letters and stuff (not very well evidently). I did that in high school...

Wow, I have managed to miss this thread completely.... and then I star ton this page. What a laugh.
Vader has his first non-seatcove post in ages that I have seen and Ron goes off the bandwagon. LOL, sorry guys, just teasing.
I wont get into the topics you are bantering on about.
Ron, I do agree with you about sms writing. While some words might have a place from time to time, entire sms conversations should be left to the cell phone. Heck, you guys have all the keys in front of you and its free to type and much as you want.
Grammar and spelling, each to their own, others can do better than some. As for first or second languages, ja well no fine, I cant write Afrikaans and battle to read it. Understanding is OK. So I give big credit to the guys who I can see are Afrikaans when they write and I do take extra time to try figure out what they mean - heck they are doing much better than I could.
Now, lets talk about something of interest.
Who else drools on their pillow if they have an afternoon nap?

Ron, I will be the first to admit that my spelling isn't always 100%, but I agree wholeheartedly with what you have written.
I have a thing about spelling, maybe even slight OCD. I'll go back and correct a spelling mistake in a post if I notice it, even weeks down the line. My wife teases me about it, we drive past a billboard or shop window advertisement with a spelling mistake and I get irate because some @#@%$^ didn't bother to proof read it!
Sure, the forum is more casual, but guys should put more effort into it. If it's a long post, type it in MS Word, F7. AMAFIXFIX, copy and paste into the forum post. Do not get me started on sms short code

are you too lazy to type the 1 extra letter! L8er or Later - wow, that must have saved you at least .23495 of a second.
Yes, I need to get a life, but on a more serious note, I placed an advertisement to fill a post we have open at the moment for a junior IT techie. If I open the attached CV and the first line has 3 spelling mistakes (including misspelling his home town!), it does not bode well for the applicant. Food for thought for anyone that's "listening".
@ Tony Z - I will never admit to it!

Most if not all the guys on here, arent apart of the IM generation. mxit, migg, ychat etc. So out of courtesy its only fair to keep it comprehendable. hahaha somebody proofread my post and correct it, I sent it from a cell phone. lets keep the debate somewhat lighthearted. TZ DROOL ON THE PILLOW FTW.

I'm a sad person, you know. I tried it!!
Later in abc is 10 presses
L8er in abc is 12 presses
Later in =abc is 5 presses
I need a life...
I had a lekker experience today. I was sitting in a Hazop (has anyone here ever done a Hazop, I'm sure there's some.) It is the most soul deadening, mind numbing three hours you ever have to suffer through.
So I am sitting next to this Japanese engineer. The poor sod is suffering big time, he is soooooo bored... He's sitting doodling. Then I look over at what he has doodled, and isn't it a perfect ACVW motor, first a complete one, then a pretty accurate exploded view...
I wrote on a piece of paper "82mmX94mm=2775cc=106kW" and he looked at me and mouthed "You?" I nodded. That was it, we started swapping notes while the others carried on and on and on... until lunch time.
Yes, I even drool in Hazops...

If you were to ask me, I would say it seems like some of you boys are from a different planet altogether!!
Welcome to Afrika, we discuss issues for jonks before anything happens. At times, we just discuss for the sake of discussing. Take for example the innocence of JZ or Selebie or even the Arms Deal, we can scream kick and shout, caricature as much as we like, but the outcome is pre-determined.
4 years you say you have been discussing this issue?, well, loose not heart, we have been discussing the re-introduction of the death penalty for the past 15 years. We are even discussing ‘legalising’ prostitution for the sake of the Poms in 2010 for crying out loud!!
Please boys, keep the debate going until such a time that acvw can only be afforded by those with offshore accounts only, then, only then, will the detriment of exporting shall need not to be discussed.
WELCOME TO SOUF AFRIKHA!!!

The Hazop's i have to endure go on 4 days. 8 hours a day for 3 - 10 days! At least i'm now at a stage where i dont just sit at the back, i have a crutial role, its not so bad then, and you get food and drinks and to debate your point on why that lines pressure wont be high enough to that to happen or what will happen when that tank overflows and and and...
O sorry Ron - let me fix that mistake quick - The Hazop's i have to endure go on

Shit Ron, If its bad grammar/spelling, its me you writing about.
Seems Like I will have to stop posting. But
English Class was 20+ yrs ago and I have never had nor needed a CV as my IDB degree was good enough. As it is I find what is not written in others CV's is the thing to worry about.
English is also an evolving language and what most call SMS language today may be taugh is schools tomorrow.
So I will still be posting. If I see cut and paste, Theory advice, or magic, I will just have to pip in with my 1c Comment.

No, no-one in particular, just an observation.
James, I sat through 3 weeks of P&ID reviews (groan) went back to Houston, and then got sent straight back to London for 3 weeks of Hazop (double groan). We did an entire LNG project, process, utilities, storage and loading... Then I quit the company and went back to site job... Here we just do the odd node when we do a mod or a temporary change... But still... This morning's Hazop was on temporary piping we all knew we would never install. This afternoon that was confirmed.
The most disturbing spelling mistake to me is in a novel. I've been known to toss a novel away if I come across a spelling mistake.

The most disturbing fact is that you read novels...that's for girls
Anyway Ron, you know you'll never be allowed to make any spelling mistakes on this forum
