Congrats Gavin, and well done Bugger! You truly transformed this bus from a bit of a ugly duckling into the proverbial swan. It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears but was done PROPERLY in a record time in my books.

Update time:

The short story is the bus now has the original Solex 34 PICT-3 back on the motor after an extensive rebuild and thorough cleaning by Mr. Bill Noble. What a perfectionist . We spent the say of Saturday, two weekends ago, neatening up wiring in the engine bay, servicing the dizzy as well as fitting the carb'. Bill has some incredibly fancy equipment there so things got tended to good and proper! Big thanks to Merlin for lending a hand that day too .

We discovered a leak on the manifold right under the carb flange! No wonder we were having timing and mixture issues! The leak got sorted and the bus purrs like never before. Bill replaced seals, jets, springs, needle valves and and and. That carb' looks fantastic.

What we did establish is that the dizzy was a little unhappy, even after it's service. The vacuum canister is working very well - if not, too well. We got varying degrees of advance but it's advancing a little too far at times despite what we did timing and adjustment-wise. Bill advised I buy a new standard dizzy, which I've done. It is not yet fitted.

He's also suggested we do the doghouse fan-shroud upgrade to keep cylinders 3 and 4 nice and cool. Merlin and I sourced the necessary Saturday past so all the new tin is due for powder coating over the next couple of weeks. A bigger oil cooler will be installed too .

In other news, while searching for secondhand tin, I stumbled across a beauty of a Bosch spot lamp . True, it looked a little worse for wear laying in the dirt as it did, but it's cleaned up beautifully! After cleaning all the connection points too, I hooked it up to a battery and it works!

What I will need is someone to make up a bracket for me so I can mount it to the front bumper bracket. I'd actually wanted it as a reverse light but upon cleaning it, it's too nice to have on the back of the bus . I'll create a second post with dimensions and design of the bracket.
