for the third time... its a ceramic thermal heat dispersant
It will stay on being that its not paint. It helps disperse heat out of the hot parts and to the surrounding air.
Dont try it yourself, I have no idea how well this will work. BTW, this engine has about 4grand worth of thermal coatings of one form or another
Once I get my engine running properly I'll post my results...

From what I have heard it makes a car idle easier when using huge cams and carbs on a small engine. If the guys are using it for formula Vs then it must work for them, but there is absolutely no reason to do it on a twin port engine with twin carbs.
If you imagine doing a huge siamese job, you will basically end up with a single port head again... I cant think of any reason why I would want a single port head

Hi Tony. i know i do not know much of these motors, but i am busy assembling a motor for the fun of it.

but i need now some help.
on the cranck you have the gear that runs the cam shaft, now on that gear it has 2 holes punched in 2 teeth and on the cam shaft you have 1 hole punched in, so these needs to be aligned, no problem, but now where and how do i aling the dizzy's gear on to the crank?

I honestly cannot remember offhand. I dont think I have ever managed to get it right, so I just turn the dizzy until the timing is right. This is a dizzy without the 4 deg retard on #3 cylinder, so it doesnt really matter.
Buy the Heynes manual from CNA or kalahari.net it has all the info in it and is worth its weight in Gold. Full engine rebuild section, brakes section, suspension section..... everything you need to know about a stock bug

There's a notch on the dizzy body that need to line up with the rotor as long as the dizzy clamp hasnn't been messed with. Otherwise position according to firing order i suppose.

That part i understand Eben, but you know the dizzy slide down the hole int that notch round part, and that have a gear at teh bottom, or does it not matter if that gear is out? as long as you have fire on the dizzy at no 1

My view is this... Get the crank at top dead center on #1 and then slide the dizzy into place with the rotor pointing to the right place. Obviously you have to know your motor properly to be able to do this.
Hope this is of some help. (btw, the dizzy can be slip in once everything is bolted up, ie. heads rocker arms etc etc)

Rotor must point to no 1.Follow plg lead to no 1
Mark on the cranc plley must be slightly left from centre of crank case split.
In most cases,the dizzy can only go in one way,beause of off-center keyway.

Well today I was a bit stressed. After prepping for my final exam at the Dept of Transport I get a phonecall this morning saying that the head examiner cant make it this afternoon (6 weeks after I made the appointment). They obviously want to head out for an early long easter weekend. Amongst other thoughts, I hope the easter bunny gives them the shits.
So I decided to take out a few of my stresses on the bug today. Changed my oil cooler for a new one that I had coated with a thermal dispersant coating. Also found that someone in the past used red-devil on the seals betw the cooler and the base (not the case). That was a mission to get all the bits out, but its all in now.
A few scrapes, a small sunburn and the bug is one small step closer to running (no idea how many steps are still needed though).......

The bug will have to sit patiently for a few more months.... I have just accepted a job in Germany for 2 to 3 months.
Anyway, I cleaned my CSP valve covers before fitting yet another sealing arrangement... found a slight problem with them. It seems that the SCAT rockers are hitting them on the pushrod side (very odd). I have emailed CSP and will chat to them first before posting pictures.

might as well update this topic again
I have replaced the CSP rocker covers with stock ones. I have also mounted the breather pipes to these tubes, but have not been happy with them. So alas, once again if and when I get home, the covers are coming off and getting re-done properly.
A few days ago I found some exhaust pipe wrap online which I have ordered. Still waiting for these guys to ship it all. Hopefully once this lot has been sent, I'll be able to start the engine without the fear of burning down the car.
I have so much work to do in the 4 weeks I am planning on being home over Feb and March, that its quite likely the car will sit for another year before I get it going again.
AH FOK, just remembered the license has expired again.
