Sorting out the fastback's brakes, in the slim chance that it could be at the swopmeet on Sunday

Towed the SC home....AGAIN!
It looks like the flywheel came loose. The guy I got the engine from did torque it,but obviously not enough. So it's out with the engine again tomorrow to see what is wrong.
And all this after I had the exhaust fitted nicely and it was going realy well.

Bolted up my steering tube, only to find that the welder welded the bracket on crooked, so now will have to mod it a bit. In other news, yesterdays brake bleeding attempt didn't go too well as the master cylinder needs new seals. For the 3rd year running, blitz won't have an ACvw at the swop meet

Sripped the engine out today.Started at three and by six it was running again.
Flywhel bolt sheered in two and the flywheel wedged itself in the bell housing.Got it out eventualy and replaced the oil seal.Fit the whole lot back together again.I got another bolt and as I got to 250nm it sheered in half again.
So I had to remove everything again and got another bolt. This time I'm sure it will be fine.
On the way home the altenator didn't want to charge,so I'll check that in the morning.

Checked that the new speakers would cover the nasty great holes the previous owner cut in the vinyl door panels. marked up the hole in the board to cut for the speakers (not sure why as i want to replace them with aluminum sheet). Btw, does anyone know of a replacement for those stupid little fiddly clips that go onto the back of those panels to clip it onto the door? The ones i have always found are useless to say the least.

Removed the tank from the bay to check the level sensor and while it was out I decided to check inside how dirty and rusted it was. this was what I found.
The orange is a bit of fuel that was left.

It looks almost brand new! Only a few pin head sized rust spots. I am wondering if this has been refurbished before. Judging by the condition of the rest of the bus, I doubt it very much.

Gill's bus... eish..
Pulled the motor, pulled the gearbox, offered up the new longer beetle gearbox, 'tis as they say, 40mm too long (old news), modified the gear box mount, modified the nose cone, offered it up again, re-designed the fancy-fix-it-all-plate from EMPI, sorted, but that was over the last couple of days.
Today I took the design to Dave who will fabricate the new plate for me, better design with a nylon interface to reduce noise. But, the big job was fitting the vacuum assisted brake booster and plumbed it in. All good, but can't bleed brakes yet because the brakes are elsewhere...
Gill says I'm scoring huge browny points...
Had lots of help from TonyZ yesterday...
