Sorry to hear you had to let go,

keep you eye open, sure you will get the one you want, just takes time.

Congratulations to Donovan, hope you have loads of fun with it.

At least it stays with in the borders, and we can all admire it when it is running.

Just for anyone interested in whats happened with Betty.
I started poking around the body and the filler was worrying me. Underneath the putty there are a few spots which is really rotten.
After seeing this I decided to take it all off. I dont want any surprises a year later after it was sprayed.
Had a lekker chat with Bruce the other day at the Oval-Office. Thanks for all the info and showing me all the cool bits and differences.

Still trying to establish the year, so far it seems like a 56.
Chassis number is 1180192 - According to theSamba its a May 1956
Date on the steering box is 1.3.56
Unfortunately the date on the back of the speedometer is 59, so no help there.
Bruce also mentioned a number on the beam under the bumpstops, still have to see if anything there. Not sure if its a correct beam.

Already got a few bits from the UK and waiting for the next CPT toybox so Henry can send my Wolfsburg goodies.
Other than that I have just been getting rid of all the filler.

Some pics.

Can't believe all that filler, but at least afterwards you will see what you got.
There is a lot of work ahead. Give it hell.

Checked the numbers and I make it early May 56 since the last number for end April is 1173573.
Engine number should be less than 1443582.
hope this helps.

I stripped my 58 Ghia myself and decided to save all the putty removed so I could weigh it afterwards.
It weighed 15kg, now its much faster.
No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

@HR - Molasses tank to be confirmed

@Jolas - that garage is way messy and due a proper clean up and toss out.
Trying to get rid of all the unused parts to fund the oval.

@Bushpig - engine number is 3273967. Seems like a 59 engine

Not much going on, just a few pics. Made some heater vent flaps(ones with the rubber in the middle are the originals) and playing around with pop-outs for the oval.

Hey Donovan

Awesome progress there bro. nice work.
(I could tell it wasn't an Instagram pic :kots: :) )

Ya, I had the years of production for the motor for you. It is indeed a '59. The beam is definitely not the correct beam.

That filler is a shock, definitely did not look that bad before, shows how much work went in to hide it all. But I am happy you are doing a 1000% better job than i ever could, makes me feel happy.

Nice work dude.

btw, if you want to strip the 'Betty' name, that is cool with me. You can name it whatever you like, or not name it. Keep up the amazing work and let me know if you want me to pop over someday.

Splitz, you are putting too much effort into the Oval, making the standard of work I have to put into my Oval, that's much more unbearable...... :TIC:

All jokes aside, that there Oval is looking great, make the car a "Keeper" when done. :D
Keep pic's coming, :D just hope I can stand all that pressure to work on mine........

Mince, nice to see you here again, this forum needs more of your input. :hangloose:
