Re: My 356 Speedster
good news..............
Screw that, as soon as people have a look at my car when I take it to have some stuff and stuff measured I can almost see them drooling. Not going to happen on so many levels buddy.

Re: My 356 Speedster
Hi Alan...
A few things?
* You are not going to find a better tuner for those carbs than jESSE hUGGET. He has been racing beetle engines for 35 - 40 years.
* If you do not wanna leave your car and keys there... why not wait for it while he works on it? Should solve the issue?
* Your cable looks a bit tight in the throttle tube and will eat into the tube... try getting one of these KITS. They give the best performance for dual carbs anywhere!! I HAVE USED THEM FOR A FEW YEARS

Re: My 356 Speedster
It is a brilliant piece of kit Gary...
Its made from aluminium, except for the stainless steel roller wheel. The throttle tube is also lined with a silicone insert, and can either be rivetted onto your fan housing or screwed on with the supplied screw.
Make sure to order the barrel end clamp seperately as it does not come in the kit.... just makes it so much neater.
Also, Joe the supplier is a top guy and orders arrive in about 10 days via normal USPS first class mail.

Re: My 356 Speedster
That is cool.. I'll attempt a DIY.. 600 plus bucks for something THAT small doesn't go down well boet. Mine "looks: like it's cutting into the tube, but I'd hammered my tube to get that flankge piece as flat as possible.. The tension's not much on the tube, and if I DO replace the motor and new tin, I'll redo the mounting and lift it slightly so it doesn't have any angle on the cable.
As for Jesse, yes, I know his history and I've always been a fan. he worked on my street Bug years back.. But I can't leave the car for 2 or 3 hours un-attended.. I also can't take time off work to wait for him? Not serious, I'm going to hook up with Tony sometime in the next few weeks and will sort mine out. For now it's running pretty well actually, no more issues currently at hand.
Outstanding issues for now are things I can do as and when they are found, steering wheel, roof, carpets, spray painter.. there's a list as it is with all our refurbishments and toys ..
regards
Alan

Hey Alan
Your thread is becoming a goldmine!
Thanks Muderick for the link. The cable on my twin carb setup has been bugging me endless and this seems like the perfect solution. Have contacted Joe and roller is on it's way.

Re: My 356 Speedster
And, this coming Saturday, we have a rendezvous with forum member Tony Z to meet and greet, and to have his professional eye and ear pour over my twin carbs. and to help set 009 Disti.. Then on the way home, stopping to meet possible spraypainter. So, it's almost all done for my little car.. whoop whoop.

Re: My 356 Speedster
Thanks to Mudz' earlier post, here's my take on the Accelerator cable roller thingie..
Bent a piece of steel bracket. Used a small long bolt and lock nut. Piece of round Ali rod, ground a small "dent" to help center the cable, and the put some grease on it. Considering how much tension is being drawn across this item, it's negligent really, and should do any damage anyway.. But it was a challenge for me to make one..

Nothing against some solid machining of Aluminium etc, but when it's R 600-00 plus for something THAT SMALL, then I have a problem with it.
